"The irony is that he probably right now has the biggest audience he’s had in years, and the double irony of all this is sponsors that are fleeing, they’re missing out on the best advertising buy in radio,” Harrison told TheDC in an interview, explaining that Limbaugh incites passion on all fronts.

Limbaugh’s fans, said Harrison, will galvanize around him, not abandon him. Many of his detractors are listening because they feel vindicated, he explained, and still others are tuning in to hear what the fuss is about.

What's sad is to see people snickering about some 45 advertisers who pulled out of Rush Limbaugh radio programming slot simply does not know how advertising works. That has not affected the bottom line of Rush Limbaugh's programming both in dollars and viewerships.

Rush is a proud user of his First Amendment rights. He is also a master at generating publicity. However, he has not captured my attention to his various media outlets. No thanks.

Majority Thinks Rush Limbaugh Should Be Fired For Sandra Fluke Comments: Poll
A majority of Americans think Rush Limbaugh should be fired for his comments about Sandra Fluke and contraception, according to a Bloomberg poll released on Wednesday.

The poll is another piece of bad news for Limbaugh, who has not been able to shake the scandal he set off by calling Fluke a "slut" and a "prostitute." It follows another poll on Tuesday which found that just 29 percent of respondents thought his subsequent apology to Fluke was sincere. It also comes as advertisers continue to pull out of his show in droves.

The Bloomberg survey showed more than half of respondents saying that Limbaugh should be fired "solely" for his comments about Fluke. Men were almost evenly split 49-47 percent on the question, but women came down strongly for Limbaugh's dismissal, with 56 percent calling for his ouster and 39 percent saying he should stay. Moreover, almost a third of Republicans wanted him gone.

Limbaugh, for his part, has continued to brush off the furor.

Michael J. Fox delivered a humble and eloquent rebuttal to Rush Limbaugh’s sexist attacks, and called out Limbaugh’s corporate sponsored bully pulpit enablers.

Piers Morgan Tonight guest host Donny Deutsch asked Fox about Rush Limbaugh’s previous comments about him faking his Parkinson’s and his recent attack on Sandra Fluke.

Rush Limbaugh tried to ruin the name and reputation of a private citizen who was doing nothing more than offering her solicited opinion. Rush Limbaugh didn’t like her thoughts, so he attempted to humiliate and dehumanize her in the ugliest and most sexist way possible. Michael J. Fox has been in the public eye since the early 1980s. He can handle whatever Rush Limbaugh throws at him. It comes with the territory, but Sandra Fluke could never have anticipated that simply voicing her opinion would lead to the sort of gender based attacks against her that should horrify any 21st Century man or woman.

The right to free speech allows Rush Limbaugh to attack Sandra Fluke, and that same right allows the American people to reject Limbaugh and boycott his sponsors. Rush Limbaugh is paying for his irresponsible use of his First Amendment rights, and Michael J. Fox was right to call out the corporate sponsored bully pulpit that has enabled Limbaugh to pollute our public airwaves with sexism, racism, and hate.

He captured NYTimes as a new advertiser on his own flagship radio station.

“It has nothing to do with fleeing, boycotting [or] censoring,” he said. “It’s just that certain advertisers have certain shows on a list that they don’t want to be on because they don’t want to be on controversial programming, and this has gone on for years.”

Sadly, many people do not realize how ads and sponsors work.

45? no idea where you're getting "45" from.

Rush Almost stands Alone: 140 companies Jump ship, Syndicate suspends his show – FreakOutNation
Rush Limbaugh, after his decades long attack on women must be feeling the heat. The catalytic force was a four day onslaught of misogynistic attacks against a coed from Georgetown. Instead of altering his discourse into a more civil manner, Rush continued to demean women even after an apology which came from the bottom of his wallet. Consequences can be a bitch sometimes, but they’re a necessary part of life.

Previously we reported that 98 advertisers have jumped ship, fleeing the warranted controversy from all right wing radio shows. Think Progress now reports that 140 companies have dropped Rush Limbaugh’s show alone.

EXCLUSIVE: 141 Companies Drop Advertising From Rush Limbaugh
ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have “specifically asked” their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaugh’s program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. According to the memo, the listed companies’ advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been “deemed to be offensive.”

The existence of the memo was first reported over the weekend by Radio-info.com, an industry newsletter. Radio-info did not publish the full list of companies. The memo was posted website of the Traffic Directors Guild of America, an association of professionals who distribute paid advertisements to radio stations. It was quickly deleted but ThinkProgress obtained a copy from a Google snapshot of the site taken on March 9.

Previously, ThinkProgress has reported that 50 companies requested their advertising be pulled from the Rush Limbaugh show following his sexist attacks on Sandra Fluke. The publication of the memo adds an additional 90 companies to the list of companies that have dropped Limbaugh:

sponsors are clearly offended by Limbaugh's offensive sexist remarks and it is obvious that they do not want to be associated with a bully with such vile free speech.

He is and he isn't. It just that when people think they got him they croon and high fives only to find their efforts to have back fired.

People have every right not to listen to his station or visit his website. That is how consumer speak by speaking with their wallets by not tuning in. That's exactly what Americans did when Air America attempted to be the "alternative Rush Limbaugh" radio station. It floundered badly for a few years before filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The link below tells why.

RushLimbaugh.com Removes Attacks On Sandra Fluke From Archives
For days, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh personally attacked Georgetown Law student and women’s health advocate Sandra Fluke, smearing her at least 70 times. Now, he’d like to pretend that some of the things he said never actually happened.

The Atlantic Wire points out that his website has scrubbed a few offensive comments. While the “slut” comments still show up in other rants by Limbaugh, his site has removed his sex tapes comment from March 1. “The pages were clearly working a few days ago — several sites linked to them,” Elspeth Reeve reports. “The pages don’t show up on the February 29 and March 1 archives, either, though links to them still exist on other transcripts related to the controversy.” Here’s the blank archives page for February 29:

Limbaugh may want to scrub some of his insulting remarks from the historical record, but they will not be forgotten. ThinkProgress has preserved Limbaugh’s sex tape comments on video here.

Limbaugh issued an apology to Fluke on March 3, and apologized on air on March 5. But in between, he has continued to attack Fluke and even turned his wrath on female journalist Tracie McMillan as well. Meanwhile, advertisers continue to abandon Rush Limbaugh’s show, with more than 40 dropping their ads since his attacks against women began.

Meant to cover one more example of back-firing. One example was Senator Reid's letter that was sent to Limbaugh and in turn he took that letter and auctioned it and got $2.1 million dollars out of it. And the funny thing is, Reid tried to get credit for that.

nah. it's just easier to hate and blame than to engage in problem-solving talks.

kokonut - you were very critical about name-calling as stated in your blog - "Professionalism or name calling?". Why aren't you scorning Rush Limbaugh for engaging in ugly name calling when he called Sandra Fluke or someone using birth control a "slut" and "prostitute"?

That reminds me about media outlets and it's their continued manufactured outrage, not mention their hypocrisy in this. A good example of this is MSNBC's newest star of the show.
The American Spectator : MSNBC's Goose and Rush's Gander

People continue to try every trick in the book to try and get Rush off of the air by the continual twisting of his words...not to mention their extremely translucent skin, double standard and hypocrisy. Not exactly the standard bearer for freedom of speech and press.

Holy quotes Batman!!!

I respect his right to speak, even though I often disagree with him. He has a talent for making money as well, judging by the Reid letter thing. But in the recent case of him calling the student a slut, there were no words twisted there, judging by all the apologies he has offered. If he had no guilt, he would stonewall.

He apologized. So did Schultz of MSNBC for calling a private citizen a slut.

Ed Schultz suspended from MSNBC after calling Laura Ingraham a ‘right wing slut’ - The Washington Post

The difference here is the continued mock outrage milking it for all its worth. Making as much distraction as possible in an election season.

Well, Rush is a bigger fish than Schultz, and this other thing happened last year. Also, Rush still has a job, where as Schultz was suspended.

I could also say that Rush stole the idea...nah. :hmm:

Schultz still has a job. In fact, his own tv show, too, with MSNBC. The show was only a month old when he call her a slut. He's still there. Apology accepted in full. Laura and others moved on.

I suspect the same will happen for Rush. Of course, the Liberals will bring this to the forefront when inspired to do so, just as Conservatives use the Schultz thing.

Rush did have a TV show back in the early 90's. I watched it a few times. Not sure why he does not have one now.

Rush has been around for years. his ass must be jealous of all the crap that comes out of his mouth. why do sponsors whine and claim offense and pull their ads? they already knew who they dealing with. idiots

I think it is a way for the companies to make their name heard also. Sponsor this guy, then claim they are offended and pull their ads. After the dust settles, they go back and sponsor again.
