Big Measles Outbreaks Linked To Troubling Trend

I went deaf when I was 10 years old from the measles and possibly the medication they gave me to save my life.

I've had the measles when I was small. But regarding the rubella vaccine...

Weird thing is I had the vaccine when I was small along with numerous of other vaccines. I got pregnant and gave birth to my first and at the hospital they determined that it showed I had no immune to rubella. I said I already had the vaccine as a child. Regardless, they gave me the vaccine after birth.

2nd time I got pregnant, they gave me the same story at a different hospital. I said I was vaccinated 2 years ago!! I told them no. Forget it.

There was no such thing as MMR vaccines when I was a kid or young adult. I've had measles, mumps and chicken pox. I did get vaccines for polio (one of the first group of mass vaccinations) and smallpox.

I had chicken pox in 1988 - worsen my hearing from HoH to profoundly deaf.

If I was vaccinated when I was born so will be HoH today, even no CI.

Which one was most painful to experience?

For me, the mumps. I was about 7 years old. What was really bad was that my dad caught them from me. It's worse for adult men to get mumps. He was about 40 then. It was the first time that he stayed home from work. (I think he would have gone to work except the other men at his job didn't want him around to spread the mumps.)

Chicken pox were worse for my younger brother. He ended up with a few scars.
