Better TVs for CC.

How do you know? You travel alot like I said before, right?
why don't you go to "high-end" tv store and find out? you won't find any single "Vizio" or "Insignia" tv in there.

LG and Samsung are very competitive. Just like Kia and Hyundai.
FYI.... both Kia and Hyundai are owned by same company

I bet you didn't know Daewoo manufactures assault weapons

Anyway, if I want to buy another HDTV now, I would choose Panasonic top-of-the-line plasma HDTV.
Panasonic is very good.

VIZIO is utter crap. it doesn't even compare to LG. that's why most hotels have them. cheap and shitty.

LG, Samsung, and Sony are the best one out there. I have 2 LG because my friend works for LG so I get over 50% discount each... I got LG laundry and dryer machines too for my parents.. the best in the world :D

I got Vizio HDTV in 2011 (it was christmas gift from my relative) and didn't have any issue. The build quality looks cheap but technology works fine.

FYI, Insignia is Best Buy brand (store brand) and it is piece of crap.

Also, I have 32" Samsung HDTV in basement.

Ha insignia LCD screens are from low grade Samsung screens. I have the Insignia for 6 months and still works fine. Its only $200 and if it breaks, its not a big deal. I had a Olevia (out of business) and it worked fine for 3 years until it got stolen.

Yes, I found Vizio is cheap because they outsourced the labor to China.

Yeah Olevia was one of the few were assembled in the USA and components made in other country.

Oh, Chevy57, you won the prize but it's damaged so you request for an exchange. Is it possible for you to pick a different brand?

They will refund money to me when return damaged TV.

First built-in tuner is called ATSC tuner which is for OTA - Over the Air (local HD channels through a HD antenna). It's required in all TVs by FCC.

QAM tuner is for digital cable channels which are unscrambled. It depends on the company. Some basic cable channels are scrambled so the STB (cable box) is required. If all of your basic cable channels are unscrambled, then you are able to use QAM tuner in your TV so you don't need the STB from the cable company to save money on a box rental but you can't subscribe to premium channels such as HBO, Showtime, etc since they are scrambled (STB required).

If you use QAM tuner as well as ATSC tuner, I understand now why you want to know which HDTVs have best CC decoder.

Thank you! Vizio doesn't include QAM tuner. not so worth. LG and Samsung has it, too.

in most cases... no

these prizes are usually already bought or are donated by companies so you get what they have. if they're really that awesome - they would take it back and offer another one.

Not just brand. It's all depend on model. Some model are soo CHEAP and some model are great and not too cheap.

Don't be sure. Our Vizio already have one since 2007. It's FCC law.

Olevia is worst one ever. Poor picture quality. That's why I don't see them at anywhere store at all.

Why plasma? What's wrong with LED?

QAM is moot because I use Directv and use their DVR via HDMI.

Chevy57, if you have digital cable or satellite TV so QAM isn't matter to you.

Alright! but no word on Vizio specification Should add "QAM Tuner"

Chevy57 has a basic cable service so he can use a QAM tuner to avoid paying for a box rental as long as all of those channels he receives are unscrambled. Clear?

His quote:
I have cable. I won't charge extra cable converter. Use basic cable only. Some brand tv set have HD built-in tuner and QAM tuner. What's different about this tuners?

I have digital cable from TWC. I almost use local network TVs to watch HDTV programs. Example: digital cable channel is 3 and HDTV channel 3.1.

Oh wow - see Chevy57's post above - he uses digital cable.

The Highlander said all HDTV require to have QAM turner built in.

Not anymore after FCC changed their rule - FCC Rules To Make It Harder To Get Cable Channels Without A Cable Box
