Is anyone familiar with the event? It took place early on the 25th of February. It happened at around 3am or so.

Thousands of air raid wardens were summoned to their positions.

There were over 1,4000 anti-aircraft shells fired. They were 12.8 pounds each. Several buildings were damaged, a few got killed. There were also a few who had a heart attack and died.

A blackout order was in effect until later in the morning.

I find it interesting that I never heard of this event before today considering the fact I have looked into quite a few UFO events.

Was it really a false alarm? If it was, then why did they shoot at an "imaginary" aircraft for over an hour and was on alert until 7am in the morning?

We'll never know, I guess. They "concluded" that it was weather balloons. They always resort to that one.

When I say UFO, I don't mean an alien spaceship. It could had been a Frisbee for Pete's sake!

Mod, can you please remove the dash from the title? Thanks.

Dash? Whew, I thought we were being invaded again.

Wait, don't dash.

It's understrike, not dash. My mistake. :giggle:

Well... it can be called a dash, but it's usually referred to as a low dash or an understrike. Even underscore.

English is a funny language sometimes.

It was a great album. :)

That's understandable. It could also be called a dash being down in the dumps. Or preparing a strike from under. Oh grrrr, you got me hopelessly confused now about the etymologies of words, lol.

How did I know someone was going to post that one?

Sorry, I'm being an ass. I've never heard of the air raid, but that's interesting reading. Thanks for enlightening us. There are lots of unsolved mysteries out there and I am usually fascinated with them.

Haha, no worries. It's better to have a sense of humour rather than being uptight and anal about everything.

Don't take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive.

I agree, it's an interesting event especially when a few were killed by friendly fire.

What? Who are you calling anal? You saying I'm taking myself too seriously? Huh? What do you mean nobody gets out alive? Hogwash! What!? What?!

:D

In other news, your post has prompted me to put on the namesake album. I was at the opening concert for the Battle of Los Angeles tour at the Oracle in Oakland, CA in 2000. One of the craziest nights ever. Even though I was wearing earplugs, I'm sure that concert helped to accelerate my hearing loss a few years. LOL.

(hope my neighbors don't care I've got the volume jacked up!)

Well I think we were paranoid after 9/11 when that airliner crashed unexpectedly in Queens. Everyone was running scared like it was another attack.

Friendly fire...that term always confuses me. What the hell is friendly about a bullet ripping through your body? Guess it's just a way to make "Oops, that was a poor aim" sound better.:giggle:

"Accidently shot" sound better? :P

I had heard about this at one time way back......I didn't realize how bad it was.
