Bartender fired for report drunk driver

It's a good call of the bartender to improve safety. However, one tricky issue is determining how road worthy a customer is. If the customer had only 1 beer that would be wrong however if the customer is so drunk he can't even walk to his car then definitely get involved.

I wouldn't be able to walk with one beer...but then I'm not much of a drinker. A person shouldn't be fired for trying to protect the public.

She did the right thing...and it back-fired. If it were me, I'd get a lawyer and sue...Them saying "she was bad for the business" ?? say what....

That's total bullshit saying bad for business. You know what's bad for business is watching your customer die in accidents, not good for repeat business!

Feel it's just a ploy for the "good ol' boys"....a "respected member of the community" getting arrested for drunk driving??....Oh My!....

Then again, it's my understanding that a bartender should keep tabs on their customers and can refuse to serve them drinks if they feel they have had too much ??.....

I don't know if keeping tab would work. I would suppose it would work if the person was alone AND there were no cab, train, or bus running.

Just a thought....there is a reason no beers are served after 7th inning of baseball games. Not sure how it would apply to a bar, though.

That's the law here, but very few bartenders follow it. I wish more of them would.

Texas Law requires servers to report drunk drivers as well as make "reasonable attempts" to stop them.

The bartender did the right thing. I despise drunk drivers. My stepmother was hit by a drunk driver and she was seriously injured. She broke her collarbone and her leg and I can't remember what else. She was in the hospital for about two weeks. I was 14 then.

make them leave car keys if refuse then call cops...i think she did right thing she may even saved few lives
