Son just got rid of a headache that had been pestering him for 5 days.

Walgreens brand of Excedrin, tension headache, and sleep. He turned off the XBox, PS@, netbook and DSiXL for the 5 days.

yes at once I asked my doc he said its fine as long I eat meal along with it. I had ulcer once 6 years ago, I eat spicy food without any trouble

eating a meal with it is much better, but still it is not too great an advice
considering it is coming from a doctor

particularly if you say you had an ulcer already.

If you need more than 400mg at once for your HA your dr should RX something else for your headaches, something that is equal or stronger than 400mg if Ibu,
but easy on stomach.

So, you rate advice from an AD member higher than advice from a Dr? What are your credentials to give medical advice?

My credentials?
I have severe migraine since childhood, been to so many drs
including top notch neurologists and other migraine specialists
over the years I lost count
and I am merely relying what I've been told?

I will concede that you probably know more about the subject than the average family doctor. But there are doctors out there that specialize in migraines and are involved in research that you and I are not yet privy to.

I too grew up with severe migraines but I just share my experiences with people. I don't dispense medical advice and tell people not to listen to their doctors. I might suggest that they get a second opinion. But experiencing an illness does not make you an expert in medicine.

Now that I am thinking about this a bit more, different doctors will sometimes give opposite opinions on a subject that may not be well versed in. If things are not working out for you, it may be time to get a second opinion.

my doctor refuse to prescribe anything stronger than 800mg ibuprofen (that does nothing to my headache btw) and suggest I go see neurologist but will my insurance cover? No

My friend is pre-med. He says, if you pinch the skin between your eyebrows it temporarily relieves the tension that causes some headaches.

That is sometimes the only way I can get through dinner.

I agree - different doctors give different opinions between themselves,
it's indeed ridiculous how sometimes they cancel each other,

I am not saying not to listen to the doctor,
I am saying this not a good advice
to be given by a dr to take 600mg of Ibuprofen at once, even with food, particularly to someone who already had an ulcer once.

However, I researched 600mg Ibu later and looks like there is a
single pill in 600mg strength, only it is available by Rx only:
Ibuprofen 600mg Side Effects | LIVESTRONG.COM
Bad side effects, though, hmm.

Please note it is not my personal opinion, it is general medical opinion that if any given medication is not effective any more in its prescribed dose,
then it should be discontinued and something else should be tried instead,
because once you exceed the recommended dose the risks vs benefits tips on the scale toward the negative.
And normally for migraines it's 200mg and 400mg of ibu.

In other words, what's the point of taking something that has potential of ruining your stomach if out there might be something better and safer for your headaches?

At least that's how it was explained to me when I was protesting against being put on heavy duty rx painkillers - that it is better for me to take fewer
of those, than keep overdosing on OTC NSAIDs or even Tylenol
and thus increasing my chances of experiencing serious side effects.

Just saying -I would certainly question the judgment of letting ME taking such a 'corrosive' medication for my migraines,
knowing there are much more effective and safer for stomach alternatives like triptans, and narcotic pain relievers.

So, yeah, we are in agreement here, seek the second opinion.

I see.
Yeah, that's common problem with many family doctors, unfortunately :(
maybe you can look for another GP, or try another insurance?

Thats silly! I'm amazed at all the craziness with the insurance stuff. I want insurance that can just take care of us. Is that too hard???

I didn't think you were supposed to smoke inside the factories...

Nope, it's a factories to make a ciggy tobaccos, when the factories went into errors that causing too much compressed a tobaccos inside of the ciggy stick..

Might check to see if you have any cysts on your head --- I used to get really BAD headaches on one side of my head (blinding pain, light sensitive, nausea - all like a migraine). My doctor removed the two cysts I had (one at front hairline and one at back hairline) and no more headaches! One of them came back about 6 months later and headaches came back. Took that one out and no more headaches. The only thing my doctor could figure is that I had inflammation in the cysts (they would get bigger/smaller at times) and that put pressure on a nerve pathway and blood vessels and that caused the headaches. Just something to consider.... if I hadn't experienced it for myself I don't think I would have believed it. (they also ruled out arterial inflammation disease!)
