I will concede that you probably know more about the subject than the average family doctor. But there are doctors out there that specialize in migraines and are involved in research that you and I are not yet privy to.
I too grew up with severe migraines but I just share my experiences with people. I don't dispense medical advice and tell people not to listen to their doctors. I might suggest that they get a second opinion. But experiencing an illness does not make you an expert in medicine.
Now that I am thinking about this a bit more, different doctors will sometimes give opposite opinions on a subject that may not be well versed in. If things are not working out for you, it may be time to get a second opinion.
I agree - different doctors give different opinions between themselves,
it's indeed ridiculous how sometimes they cancel each other,
I am not saying not to listen to the doctor,
I am saying this not a good advice
to be given by a dr to take 600mg of Ibuprofen at once, even with food, particularly to someone who already had an ulcer once.
However, I researched 600mg Ibu later and looks like there is a
single pill in 600mg strength, only it is available by Rx only:

Bad side effects, though, hmm.
Please note it is not my personal opinion, it is general medical opinion that if any given medication is not effective any more in its prescribed dose,
then it should be discontinued and something else should be tried instead,
because once you exceed the recommended dose the risks vs benefits tips on the scale toward the negative.
And normally for migraines it's 200mg and 400mg of ibu.
In other words, what's the point of taking something that has potential of ruining your stomach if out there might be something better and safer for your headaches?
At least that's how it was explained to me when I was protesting against being put on heavy duty rx painkillers - that it is better for me to take fewer
of those, than keep overdosing on OTC NSAIDs or even Tylenol
and thus increasing my chances of experiencing serious side effects.
Just saying -I would certainly question the judgment of letting ME taking such a 'corrosive' medication for my migraines,
knowing there are much more effective and safer for stomach alternatives like triptans, and narcotic pain relievers.
So, yeah, we are in agreement here, seek the second opinion.
