Yeah, CJB, maybe they're trying to be polite/complimentary but I never know what to say to it. 'Well I'm not, honest'? or 'Yeah, I just make it up for fun.' Yes, you'd think deafblind services would understand. Mostly it's the general public who say 'You can't tell.' - they think it's a compliment in some way. Perhaps it's pleasing to them that I concentrate very hard and lipread so that they have no idea? So as not to inconvenience them..
Maybe we should write a book.....
The Audacity of Audism
Has a nice ring to it
I love the title!
I reckon it's about time we deaf communities from around the world start writing their experience and how it has impacted them. Then compile it and have it published.
The hearies esp Oralists wouldn't know what has hit them!
Then write up a book with many people's experiences in education and communication method and the attitudes of the 'experts' and how that has affected them.
It'd cause a large ripple thru the oral and medical worlds. Perhaps afterward, they might then think twice before screwing with deaf people again.
Too bad the deaf oralists will publish their side of the story and counter-act our stories. :|

Well, they could but if the deaf signers make more waves then our voices will be heard more. But then again, it'd depend on what hearies wants to learn from us.
Deaf oralists can try to make everything look peachy, but we know otherwise, don't we?
Also they need to be taken down a peg or two.
Yep, if nothing of ours is published, no one will hear our story. I just wish hearing people don't take the side of the deaf oralists. :\

We could all write an essay or 2 and the create a book of essays on the topic..... Just throwing it out there. I know peeps that could get it published and get press.
How is that Audism?Wirelessly posted
Haha...
I get asked where in Germany I am from, then when I say I grew up in Alberta all my life and explain I am deaf:
"Oh you speak so well!"
How is that Audism?
It could work.....I haven't read blind rage. I would think rage is the wrong approach.....I mean yeah people should know we are mad about a few things......at the same time there needs to be a new understanding of how capable we are.
I really believe we all can do this and get this published. Hearing people won't believe that deafies could write a book!
I'd invest in this project if others wants to jump on the bandwagon.
I already started writing.....lol
Great! I have tried writing but so far, I think it's crappy.
Couldn't write a piece on Audism because it's hard for me to remember if I ever was hit with audism.
Because it plays into the deaf mute stereotype that people hold onto. How is that Audism?
