Audiogram vs Real life

I also wanted to add that I can hear all of the high frequencies of music as well as differences between letters that sound alike. (i.e. d and g)

I have some ideas. The John Tracy people were great with trying to help me figure out what will work for her. We are hoping a split placement at this point. 3 days at bi-bi 1 st grade and then the other 2 in the oral Kindy. This way she won't have to worry about the oral content and curriculum, just the language. That way she keeps working on both languages and gets access to the best professionals in both modes.

BUT I am positive they will tell me no. I am armed to fight now!

Can you please explain why JTC would tell you no to what you are considering regarding school placement?

She isn't talking about JTC> She means the school district her daughter attends.

Because JTC is not a believer of using ASL in the classroom or so what I was told by so many people I know in the teaching field.

Faire......you know I really think you should try to help improve the speech department of your bi-bi school.....or maybe even do something like try to make oral schools/insistuions more ASL friendly.....Like encourage a "full toolbox approach" rather then speech, speech speech only.

I am working hard! I am curculating a petition about the "Slp" at the bi-bi school. We are working on getting her replaced by someone more appropriate. I also have ASL pull outs for my daughter at the oral school. I also met with the new superintendant of the school for the Deaf and we talked about all those things. Change is slow....

So at JTC they cranked up Miss Kat's hearing aid. She is now hearing at 25-30 db, and then sloping down to 40-45 at high frequencies. Sounds great, right?

Nope. They did speech testing. First we did it with her CI and HA together. She scored 70%. With just her hearing aid (same test) she got 20%. That is a HUGE difference.

compare to her, i wonder what is the average hearing child would score as far as speech score? I may check my son's audiogram (we had him tested last year just in case) if I can find it.

I'm not a child, but as a hearing person, I would score 100%. Single words or sentences, I would be able to get 100%. So would a hearing child.

Still that's good! Maybe also work with hearing oralists to help them to realize that dhh kids really need a full toolbox of tools?
Maybe then that could lead to collaboration and sharing of resources.
