Hey,
I'm currently in my trial period with Naida V, and I'm wondering what Naida IX users think of the additional features? My audie says to go up would be an extra $1300 each. Quite a lot. However, I think that the duophone might really help me (I can still use the phone in quiet situations). Also, how do you guys find the Zoomcontrol and other special features? Are they worth the extra money?
Here is my system currently:
Naida V on both ears (currently SP, but on thurs changing to UP)
Smartlink
MyPilot 2

Thanks!

EQL I am a IX user. The price difference between the V and the IX was quoted to me as less than $500 each. As I remember the V was $5250 a pair and the IX was $6000 for the pair. That included 5 yrs of batteries and lifetime support. The iCom cost $300 and works well with the bluetooth phone. When listing to TV the phone rings in my ears and by pressing the iCom I can answer it. another press and back to where it was. I have the TV Sound hooked up to the Smartlink. It FM's the sound to the iCom and the iCom controls the sources. I think you would like the IX's.

Bob

Just remembered: If I wanted the FM on the IX's, it was quite a bit more. Maybe thats why the difference. I just use the FM on the iCom.

Thanks, yes, i use FM on the Vs. I'm more interested in the usefulness of the duophone and the zoom function. How do you find those? Also, when did you get yours? Perhaps the prices have changed? My Vs were $3825 (i paid $2825 b/c of gov't funding), and i was told the IXs would be $6925 (or $6925 with gov't funding). These prices are also Canadian Dollars, not USD.
Thanks,

Not Familure with the duophone. I use the Zoom almost always. The factory rep likes to call it "focus". Focus forward is used when talking with someone face to face in noise. When driving I use focus right to talk to my wife. I am not set up for Rear focus.

Thanks. So the 'focus' really makes a difference, eh? How do you access it? MyPilot? I use FM on the Vs, but I didn't have to pay for it, my school gave me a grant. When did you get yours? Got mine last sept. and prices are USD. Focus can be accessed by the program switch on the aid. as both are coupled justpressing the switch changes both. same with volume. The remote control will do the same thing. Focus Right or left, just press the right for right focus and left for left focus. Pressing either one will go to forward focus.

wow someone does have IX ...shame you haven't used the duophone yet

I went to several sites describing the duo phone and it sounds a lot like the T-coil operation which I have tried. In order to use it the T-coil program has to be activated and the phone placed next to the HI. The HI then switches to the T-coil program allowing the phone to be heard in both ears. Isn't this duo phone? I tried it, wouldn't switch programs with my phones. Phonak supplied me with magnets to put on my phone. The switch worked intermittently, and was more trouble than it was worth. So I had it disabled. Much better operation with iCom and blue-tooth. I have had the Naida's just since the end of Sept 09 and we left for vacation Nov first 09. I have not been able to see an audi since (but thats another story). When I get back in March - April will check into it again.

hmmm.. interesting interesting. I hope the phonak rep on thursday brings a pair so i can try them and see. Not that i really think i'm going to be able to come up with $3000, however, it would be interesting to try!

Rummaged around and drug out my Naida Users Guide. Read through it (again) and there is NO mention of Duo phone. What I did find was Easy phone. HMMM so I checked Phonak and found entries referring to Duo phone press releases starting in May of 09. Yet none of the literature refers to Duo phone. What happened? Did Easy phone step on someones trademark toes? They both sound the same. Still couldn't get it to work reliably for me.

hmm, ok, well.. that pretty much takes the usefullness of the upgrade away from me. I would upgrade mainly to be able to continue to use the phone.
Thanks

You have to remember that this is just my result. Also the duo phone is just one feature of the Naida's. Also other Phonak have the same feature. If you need a power HI the Naida IX is about the only thing on the market. (I know I will hear about that). The Naida's are water resistant. Many other features are available. Get whats best for your situation.

Yup, i have Naida Vs right now. Going to the appnt tmrw.. i'm hoping the Phonak rep will have a pair of IXs for me to try!

EQL I sent a query to the phonak rep that services my area. here is the C/P.

Duophone is a feature that when enabled it streams the phone signal from one ear to the other (so you hear the phone call in both ears). If you have a telecoil program then the duophone feature has to be activated in the software. Easy phone just means that when you hold the phone to the hearing aid the aid automatically goes into telecoil function. The Duophone can be set up either as a telecoil program or as an acoustic phone program.

This helped me understand a little better.

Thanks, it did. He didn't have any tho, so w/e. Also, because I have the iCom, in a few months when i no longer have a land line my cell phone will pretty much be doing 'duophone' because of the bluetooth.
