I have question to ask Hearies...

When someone drives a car on the driveway around in neighbor...Can you hear and tell the difference in each cars with the sound of motor? Does the car has their own different sounds of motor? :dunno:

I asked my hearing family about this.

They said "Depend"

it depends on how old or new the motor is.. and if it is broken or not. Sometimes it is loud with a damaged exhaust pipes etc.

It does depend. It depends on whether the vehicle's muffler is screwed up or not. If it is, then yes, you can hear that car coming down the road from a mile away!

Taking this further, cars make all kinds of different sounds whether idling or riding the road. These sounds can be from the engine (even gas and diesel engines sound different), mufflers (exhaust), tires (those big thread tires used by offroad vehicles have a unique sound), and sometimes other sounds like bad bearing and whatnot.

With that combination, you can often tell a specific vehicle coming and recognize it without seeing it just by hearing it. For the most part, most vehicles tend to sound the same but if one is paying attention, you can tell certain differences.

I can tell if its my ex or my son pulling in the driveway by the motor, muffler, ect.

At my house, I can hear the difference of Hubby's van, his Durango, the postal carrier's car, the FedEx and UPS trucks, the Schwann's truck, the garbage truck, my neighbor's pickup, the lawn debris truck, a fire engine (without sirens), another neighbor's motorcycle, and the school bus. Each one sounds quite different, and I can tell without looking which one is driving by my house.

Looks like most hearing people can identify
their own husband/wife cars etc.. but I wonder
if you can identify any stranger's car whether it is
a BMW or Benz without looking at it ??!?!?
