AT&T today announced new data plans for smartphone and tablet customers that will launch this Sunday, January 22. The plans give customers more data and value.

The new smartphone plans include:

AT&T Data Plus 300MB: $20 for 300MB
AT&T Data Pro 3GB: $30 for 3GB
AT&T Data Pro 5GB: $50 for 5GB, with mobile hotspot / tethering
Smartphone customers needing additional data can pay $10 per additional gigabyte on the AT&T Data Pro 3GB and Data Pro 5GB plans; AT&T Data Plus users will receive an extra 300MB for $20.

The new tablet plans* include:

AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB
AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB

But AT&T TAP is same plan as 2GB. Should updated new plan???

I still keep grandfathered unlimited AT&T data plan on my iPhone 4. I will wait to see new iPhone 5 (LTE) this summer or fall. I don't know to keep grandfathered plan or not for new one??

Well, I went to the att store for upgrade new smartphone last Nov. I had grandfathered plan but it must required 2 GB data plan. Because of LTE and 4G coverage area. I believe that they can't get my old data plan back after I upgraded new smartphone. I am using WIFI on my phone at my home all the time. The sms and incoming calls can using 4G. Oh, well.
When you will get new iPhone LTE, they will give you a new data plan.

:hmm: I like 3GB data plan but AT&T TAP not yet change plan. I won't pay $10 at 1GB over 2 GB because reason of video callings.

I believe I may switch to Verizon or Sprint for the iPhone 5 (LTE) if AT&T TAP 2GB data plan still be same.

I think AT&T TAP will follow the suit once AT&T rolls a new data plan for smartphones. I don't know when TAP will modify new data plans for Deaf/HH customers.

I still keep grandfathered data plan for now.

AT&T is that way. They don't seem to update old plan or old users, so they leave them with outdated plans. It is both good and bad thing. Because of AT&T's behavior, I can use unlimited data UMTS/HSPA with any non-usa smartphone for only $10 a month. They haven't updated the policy so it works for me. I have no opinion for LTE yet, what good is LTE if it burns more money in my pocket. :)

My opinion, to update the TAP plan everyone of you on TAP plan should write email or statement to AT&T to ask them to review and update it. Get the complete deaf community involved and post it on AT&T's facebook, email them, make a movement and I think it will happen. People were able to do it with Verizon.

But AT&T may force you to switch limited data plan if getting new iPhone 5. Not sure. I will find out it this summer.
Yes, AT&T TAP is only for iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4.
4S and probably later 5 so far not supported. No androids or blackberry or nokia etc. If you try any other phone you will get regular data plan.

Hmm, interesting. If it happens, I will go with 5GB data plan or I jump into Sprint.

WTF!!! att no longer sell text messages that limited to 200 for $5 or 1,000 for $10 anymore, just unlimited only for $20 per month.

I decided to drop unlimited texting out.

You can use iMessage and Textfree or Text+.

Yeah, they dropped the 200/1000 for subscribers but it's still in the prepaid.

Foxrac, try Google Voice? You got a free text number and app with it.

I have wrote an email to AT&T's TAP (NCCDSupport@att.com) and also a statement on AT&T's facebook page.
Please feel free to join and share the comment so they are aware of it.

Email I sent to AT&T:

Hello AT&T,

I'm an AT&T subscriber and a member who is with the Deaf community that would like to see the Text Accessibility Plan (TAP) updated to incorporate current standards. The rates are outdated and do not compare with the rates in the current time.

We are also restricted to only three smartphones: iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4. We would like to be able to add other options such as Tablets, Android™, Blackberry™, and the iPhone 4S, and eventually iPhone 5 when these smartphones come out.

1.00GB data = 1024.00MB, this is the standard data conversion for providing bandwidth.

The TAP plan pricing currently as of February 2012:
A) $35/month for unlimited text and 200MB data and email (with $15 200MB overage) = $0.175 per MB
B) $45/month for unlimited text and 2.00GB data and email (with $10 1.00GB overage) = $0.0225 per MB
C) $65/month for unlimited text and 2.00GB data and email and tethering (with $10 1.00GB overage) = $0.0325 per MB

The standard subscriber data & text plan pricing currently as of February 2012:
A) $20 unlimited texting + $20/month for 300MB data and email (with $20 300MB overage) = $0.133 per MB
B) $20 unlimited texting + $30/month for 3.00GB data and email (with $10 1.00GB overage) = $0.0166 per MB
C) $20 unlimited texting + $50/month for 5.00GB data and email and tethering (with $10 1.00GB overage) = $0.014 per MB

In the above two cases, you are slightly overcharging your Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers with higher pricing per MB and with a lack of phone choice.

Best regards,

I'm confuse, I don't see limited text in there. It's still unlimited for iPhone. Isn't it?

So, he isn't on TAP plan, eh?

I'm on TAP plan but I don't want pay extra for unlimited messages that I don't use so much.

TAP is required to waive the voice plan and my monthly is $30 per month for data only.
