Hi, I am henry and have been a lurker for a long time. I am fascinated by the wide variety of topics you all put forth and discuss. A little about myself, I am going to be a teacher for the deaf, and like any child, I want to help them be successful. Currently I am in school to be a teacher. This is for an assignment, and I want to pose some questions to you all.

What is your first name?

Are your parents deaf or hearing?

If they were hearing, do you feel you got the proper support?

What was your childhood like as far as making friends, did you get bullied?

Do you play any sports?

Would you date a hearing person?

Last question, and I would understand if you didn't want to answer. I have to ask, have you ever thought about what life would be like if you were not deaf? Do you feel you would be a different person? If so, how so?

Anyway, it would much appreciated if one of you responded to these questions and get me A plus on my assignment. :D:ty:

What is your first name?
Botti (nickname)
Are your parents deaf or hearing?
Hearing

If they were hearing, do you feel you got the proper support?
My parents were completely dedicated to me.
What was your childhood like as far as making friends, did you get bullied?
In school, my one friend was a future special education teacher. I think she was practicing with me. But we did stay friends until she died of cancer.

Do you play any sports?

No

Would you date a hearing person?

No. My husband gets angry if I even suggest it.

Of course I would be a different person. We are shaped by our experiences, and it is a big contrast between deaf and hearing.

Anyway, it would much appreciated if one of you responded to these questions and get me A plus on my assignment. :D:ty:

I have done my good deed for the day. Hopefully you will get your A.

What is your first name?

Sunshine

Are your parents deaf or hearing?

Both hearing

If they were hearing, do you feel you got the proper support?

Yes I do :) They loved me and taught me to communicate.

What was your childhood like as far as making friends, did you get bullied?

I wasn't bullied, no. The other kids thought it was cool that I signed and all wanted to be taught. I am outgoing and always had lots of friends.

Do you play any sports?

I played volleyball in high school. Now I curl.

Would you date a hearing person?

Not sure. I've only ever had one boyfriend and we have been together since age 13. He is deaf.

Sorry I missed the last one. I used to wonder...but I haven't in a long time. Sometimes I wonder what it's like when I see someone listening to an iPod or something, what it's like to hear but in general I like who and how I am. I wouldn't change my deafness.

As an educator, I would suggest to you that it is up to you to get the grade on your assignment. No one here is responsible for that.:cool2:

If you are truly interested in learning more about Deaf Ed, you can do a search on this forum and read many, many threads that have been dedicated to just that topic.

Thanks for the answer. Much appreciated, Sunshine. :ty:

Henry, get off your behind and go meet some people in Real Life. :laugh2::wave:

Meeting deaf people in real life that would get you to ACE on your grade. :) that is a fact.

What is your first name? Brad

Are your parents deaf or hearing? Mom hearing/ Dad partial deaf

If they were hearing, do you feel you got the proper support? My mother has been there since day 1, my dad passed away when I was young (no doubt, he would have been right beside me aswell)

What was your childhood like as far as making friends, did you get bullied? I am late deafened (about 20 when I lost my hearing BUT I lost hearing in the right at age 10). I never had a problem in school, I actually hung around the older kids (freshman hanging out with juniors/seniors)

Do you play any sports? No BUT thats because I had surgery at 10 and they had remove a piece of skull and they told me I could not play sports. I really wanted to play football

Would you date a hearing person? Possible, as long as they are knowledgeable of the situation

Last question, and I would understand if you didn't want to answer. I have to ask, have you ever thought about what life would be like if you were not deaf? Do you feel you would be a different person? If so, how so?

seeing how I am late deafened I have thought about this numerous times. I was in school to be a radiology tech. but had to drop out because the school "said they would help with my hearing" BUT in reality they refused. After my next surgery, if I get some hearing back, I am going to try to go back to school and finish my degree
