Ok thanks for clarifying

They can implant their children all they want. I dont care about that but I think AVT is just cruel. Taking away all visual cues from little deaf kids for the sake of getting them to 'hear". I cant stomach that sick method. Also, oral-onoly is just bordering on abuse because it puts the deaf child at risks for language delays or deficits if they cant pick up on it.

I always advocate for giving them both...ASL and speech.

Again, you believe it is abuse, just like the pro-AV people think that not implanting is bordering on abuse. Why is our view more valid?

Because we're deaf and this is an issue that affects deaf people. Who would know the impact better than us?

I can bring up a pointer. It gets worse.

Many deaf people do not know personal boundaries. The reason? All of their lives speech therapists touch them all over, hand on their neck, have their hand on the speech therapists neck/mouth/nose/chest...

It might look like nothing of any importance but... at a young age and development period it is already invasive. You're programming the child that it's ok to get too touchy feely.

The rest of the school's population don't get that kind of treatment.

How's that for one point? There's more.

our views based on our experiences growing up is not any more valid than what the hearing population assumes how it is for us?

I think you need to do some more self identity discovery.

Hearing babies are taught sign language to reduce frustration and to ease expressive skills; deaf babies are being denied that route.

I realize there's a time and place to be "PC" with those who are on the medical model side of things. But this is a DEAF forum where we can let our hair down and be ourselves. Where we can openly express the oppression we felt (and still feel, at times).

Sometimes playing the devil's advocate hurts the deaf kids more with its rippling effect of making a deaf culture model view appear biased.

If we can be ourselves as deaf people on a deaf forum, of all places, where the hell can we be? It's like telling someone they can't fart in the bathroom. You gotta fart...or your intestines will explode (fact). :fart:

depend fast asl smooth because I am 100 asl

so are you planning to work there that you mention that you want to be a teacher?

Actually, that's a pretty cool question, quite a few people here have mentioned they are teachers or on staff at schools in various capacities. I'd love to know the names of schools where people teach and have taught and get the insider's view, sometimes it's hard to tell in casual conversation if they are deaf schools, deaf programs or mainstream environments. I wouldn't push a specific person to reveal their workplace or where they are applying, but if they want to volunteer, great! Maybe if some of the long-time AD teachers would say the school where they are working, it might make it more comfortable for deafguy to share, too.

This post just raises my suspicions a great deal. :hmm: It's like you already know who Deafguy25 really is.

How honest can an teacher who is a member here on AD be about their school without giving away their identity, privacy and furthermore get them in trouble with their boss and/or colleagues if they have less than glowing feedback?

Perhaps the best idea is to get feedback from students, present and past, of said schools.

Shel asked me this before -- I don't think i know him or who he is -- hmm, at least not unless he's Sheila in drag and keeping that secret identity from me. :laugh2: I've met maybe ... 4 ADers in real life, possibly 5 although I'm not positive if one person is who I think might be on AD. I don't think he's anyone I know, but who knows ... I've encountered hundred of young kids with CIs at conferences and meetings, maybe we've rubbed shoulders somewhere. If so, I hope he responds to my pm warning him about you ;) .

Not surprising that you've done that. Wouldn't be the first time either. Its already obvious that he never replies to my questions. :)

I find it humorous that you find the need to "protect" other people from me.

Exactly. It is really unwise of me to have my picture in my avator. Teachers do NOT have freedom of speech. lol

Thats the point. The deaf are usually open with who they are.

I introduced myself with my first post, but if you would like me to discuss where I live and go to school, I am not really comfortable posting that kind of stuff on a message board. Sorry.

Not surprising.

You know, I clearly remember you going to lengths to protect your identity when you started posting on here regularly in the summer of 2009. It wasn't until you lost that bet with Kokonut about his MA credentials that you let people know your identity.

Why do you care about this deafman person? If he wants to remain anonymous, what's the big deal?
