I could imagine my mom would do that dozens of time
That reminds me of boot camp. We were required to write home several times during that period. Even if you didn't want to contact your family or write a letter, at the least you had to sign a blank paper and stick it into an envelope, then address and stamp the envelope. That way, your family know that you were alive.

The company commander made sure each person did that, and then she took them to the post office for mailing.

The Navy didn't want any parents complaining that they didn't hear from their daughters.

(I don't know how it is now; that was during the Vietnam war.)

Dang. Ilive and learn, I guess. I had no idea the military's power transcends those of our elected government.
No, it doesn't. It's the opposite. The military leaders are afraid of getting in trouble with Congress. That's why the military leaders respond so quickly to Congressional letters. If a military command receives a letter from Congress, they hop to it.

The problem with going thru other channels is that they don't know the right procedures or contacts. They waste a lot of time just trying to find the right contacts. In the case of POTUS, there's just too much correspondence for that staff to sift thru, then they have to re-route it anyway. More bureaucracy involved.

No, the civilian structure is still in charge. Who gives the military their budget? The military side is

or sons either.

I met a veteran that got a Purple Heart and he me told it meant nothing to him because he was hit a bomb and still has a piece metal in his head that could move any minute and kill him.

I can understand that. It has a different meaning for each person.

I had a co-worker across the hall who was a Mineman on a river patrol boat (PBR) in Vietnam. Five purple hearts. It meant a lot to him.

Another Mineman in the next office always set off the metal detectors at airports wherever we went.

Down the hallway were two SEALs. One had a Purple Heart. The other was shot at in Vietnam while under water. He was happy he never got one.

Some medals count for advancement points when eligible.

I almost forgot, our Commanding Officer spent 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton in North Vietnam after getting shot down. Seriously wounded. He was proud of all his medals including the Purple Heart.

But you see, I don't think they're even allowed to ask for C.O.D. I think one got it all messed up. It seems like an isolated incident.

Yes it was all messed up. A medal should be personally awarded FREE. We should not be hearing about any more of those problems. A major embarrassment!

Do you know what a real major embarrassment and disgrace the medical care some of our wounded troop got at Walter Reed Hospital . The place was a HELL Hole! Our troop risk their lives for this country and they should get the best medical care available .
