Are you infected?

No need for me to check...I know I'm not infected. :D

Of course you don't. Everyone knows you cover your computer with a giant condom for extra protection! ;)

I know this should be in computers forum, but due to the severity, it is best left in General Discussion forum.

Over the past weekend, I got a few emails and IMs from several Deafies. There seem to be a virus spreading thru emails, so please check and clean your computer by running the scanner at

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp !!

Also, if you know of some good free antivirus softwares or online scanner, post them here!!

I know there is another one:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan ..
The url for housecall.com... should I scan it from internet directly or better download and scan it from there or???

Ha ha...

I just avoid those methods that virus tries to take advantage of...for example...running Outlook....accepting unwanted .exe.

It is my custom to download a .exe from a stranger...then run it in vmware that is running a windows system and see what the startup methods and also notice what changes it has made...and decide if it's worthwhile running...

With vmware 4.0...you can boot up windows then when you're finished...you can shut down then it'll forget what I installed on it...it'll start from the same before I booted it up. Saves me formatting. :p

The last virus I ever got was the Nimda virus which was widespread for a short time last year. I got the virus when I visited a websited someone referred me to in a gaming forum. That's pretty much the last thing I ever got.

I only use AVG Anti-virus proggy (Grisoft) because the Norton and McAfee Anti-virus programmes kept on crashing and conflicting with some of the programmes I had on the computer. I just don't understand why it did that as I wanted to use it on my computer, but am satisfied with AVG anyway.
(FYI - those anti-virus proggies I mentioned, didn't work on 3 different computers I bought...I reckon I must've bought some sort of defective computers, don't you think so?)

I used to format once a month. Sometimes after 2 weeks.

Right now, I just use a Norton ghost floppy disk to copy hard drive image from two cds.
