Approval for bilateral!!!!!

I am getting my implant on Jan 3. I am hoping in December but all booked. Oh well!

Wish ya luck to get the surgery date. :)

I doubt the surgery will happen by Christmas time. That would be incredible though, if it did happen.

my son had his first freedom implant at 16 moths and will have his second at 25 months old. our insurance said that bilatreals implant s in choldren 12 months and up is considered medically nessicary and is covered 100% by our insurance.. hopefully he will get his by christmas.. he has eva and found out all his natural hearing is gone... Lillys dad... good luck and we are two parents that are excited but scared!!!

Samantha, I am apprehensive about Lilly going through another surgery. I wouldnt go so far as to say that I am scared. Lilly is in excellent hands at Childrens hospital. Dr.Clary (the dr. that implanted her last year) is actually the doctor that developed how current CI surgeries are done. Before he came up with this system the drs were putting drains in the wound th eallow drainage so there will not be as much swelling. This was found to be unnecessary, and added more pain to the patient when the drain was removed. Instead, he just sewed up the wound and let the fluid discipate naturally insie the body. He prefers the patient have tubes in the ears to help with drainage, but does not require it.
There are risks with every surgery, specifically from the anasthesiology. That is what concerns me more than the procedure itsself.
Please keep us informed.
J

Great news! I think you will find that it will go very quickly over the holiday period. Now waiting to be switched on, that's another story!

this relates to a post you made the other day, I was just wondering why you desided to go the CI route? I know that you did your reshurh unlike the woman you met recently I'm just wondering.

lilly dad

my sons first ci surgery itself went wonderful .. His eva caused alot of balance problems and the anastectic made himthrow up for 2 days.. he had his first at cleveland clinic and will have his second there also. his dr. is wonderful. He ended up staying 3 days at the hospital.. I am excited for the second but because it is surgery as a parent you have to be a little scared.

There were many reasons why we chose to do the CI. One of the main resaons was that the younger she got it, the more benifit she would most likely get from it. We decided that she would have the CI at a young age so she could have speech as her first language. However, when she was old enough, if she wanted to take off the CI and go sign/lip reading route, she could.
With the CI at a young age, later in life, if she chose to go from hearing/speech to sign, she could have that option. However, if she did not have the CI at a younger age, she would have a harder time going from sign to speech/hearing with the same success rate.

ahha ok it makes a little more sence now, I'm not the biggest fan of the CI's in children but i also recinize the benifit. I think its the hunk of some thing inside of me and I worry how that feels to a kid - I had real bad reaction to a medical implant when I was younger so I guess I can be a bit bias at times. So i take it you use Sign and speach with Lilly ? I know form your privios post that she like to sing and giggle so I take it that her spech and haring traing seem to be going realy well for her? And another question I would not doubt you looked in to is , nuber of elecrotde thing , i have hard of some people getting CI's only to find out one with more of them came out soon after sugary, I was wondering would liliy benifit from waiting a month or to or is nothing like that on the horizin or dose she have to get the same one that she allready has to sound ballenced ?

I personally feel that the amount of electrodes is becomin unimportant. All of the CI on the market are so good, that you are going to have an incredible amount of clear sound. If a new one comes out on the market that may have 2 more electrodes, it really doent matter it gets to a point where it doesnt matter.
While I was investigating Lilly getting the 2nd CI, I discovered that all of the genetic "cures" are so far away that Lilly will not able to use it.
Freedom will not be coming out with anything new for a long while. So Lilly will have the identical CI in both ears.
Actually, I am listening to Lilly lay in bed counting and saying her alphabet, over the baby monitor. In other word, she is awake, and I gotta go.

It is a documented fact that a CI recipient has better success when they are implanted earlier. The earlier the better. FACT

That what you believe what the doctor telling you? The reason i said it not true because my deaf son does can speaking clear from signing he do not need to having CI he is happy with his own 2 digital HAs, i told him when he was 13 months old he was passed for CI.. now he is 14 years old and he told me say * oh i love you mum thanks god you didn't went ahead to having CI on me *. There are lots of deaf people does can speak clearly since they were littles .. so please try to find or met someone who are fully deaf that does can speaking clear like hearing people do . believe me there it does have .. i have a friend who are profoundly deaf since birth she does can speak like hearing people do ..
You should know not all of CI are be very successfully as their's parents does wish for .

I rest my case ... i have see it for myself thank you ...

How can you rest a case that you have yet to prove? You chose not to implant your son. OK. I am very aware thatther are profound people that speak very cleary without having a CI. How do these statements prove anything about my previous thread. Have you done your ressearch on CI since you decided to not implant your son? Based on your attitude, I sincerely doubt that you have.

"That what you believe what the doctor telling you?"
Here is a novel idea for you. Try fionding out a little about ME before you make false statemnts. You are the one who is repeating what you are told. You are jumping to conclusions, based on your bias.
You

I posted this thread to inform others that have been interested in the fight against the insurance compines. We and others are celebrating from winning a long hard fight and you just jump in and start throwing around unfounded, opinion based statements.

I spent months doing my research, I have formed an opinion based on years of medical data, and from others that have been implanted. I know my statement is true. I dont need you saying otherwise.

When he was little and the ENT specialist said just give me time to made the desicion for about 6 months and went back to see the ENT specialist, I told the ENT specialist I think it would be better let my son to choose when he is older. And had long thought also had researched, it was hard to made the descison then. The ENT specialist understood that i was bit concern because thinking my son would not to be happy with me when he find out that he can make his own desicion when he is older . Because my son would might ask me why didn't i have CI if i went ahead to have him this CI.

( by the way never mind about my attitude, also it does piss me off when people thinking they are the better than the deaf people you seem that you are the control freak from what i read your posts or threads)

Congratulations.
Excellent news.
Looking from other groups where I have read about people that got a second one for their child, you will definitely notice the difference.

Glad to see all your work for her second CI payed off.!

So if I have an 80 year old uncle who is still alive after smoking since he was 14 and know some friends who are still alive after years of smoking that means I can dismiss my doctor and the studies that tell me that smoking is harmful to my health?

That's the logic of your argument.

We are all different. Your son has some useful hearing with his digital aids. Many CI candidates have little or no hearing at all.
