My landlord told me that he has to reorganize the house for the winter. I live in one of the bedrooms on the 2nd floor with a guest suite on the 1st floor. He said the place may be shut down. It's a big old house, so could it be heating costs?

He told me about someone in town who has one bedroom, so I could see if I could move there.

or... he just wants to kick you out :laugh2:

Wow....sorry to hear that, Redfox. Probably does have something to do with heating costs, especially if the house has gas heat. Big houses are usually drafty, and 2 stories are harder to heat than 1 story. Did he have an inspection recently?

It's heated with 2 tanks of oil. There are 3 floors to heat and the attic's ceiling is high like the two stories below it. I don't know about the inspections.

Sounds like heating problems.

ouch.. im sorry to hear about this.. hope you will find another place to live in..good luck!

I talked with the landlord and yes it's heating costs. The second and third floors might be sealed off. I called and emailed about several apartments today in the same village.

Next time, buy the house. An apartment rent and a house payment are almost same. House have no rules :)

No it's not, you have to pay additional bills such as priority taxes, home insurance, water sewer, and homestead tax if apply, and mortgage's interest hike go up after 5 years. And the cost of repiar in the house that might went wrong like roof fucked up, plumger clot and etc..

Yup, that's true, only mortgage interest rate will go up if you use ARM, if you have fixed rate then you are safe.

There's many different place that houses aren't cheaper than rent the apartment, depends on cities, town and place to live, such as real estate in CA is ridiculously expensive and rent the apartment or property are alternative cheap for families who unable to afford the house with high payment, high property tax in varies of area and others, own nice house in good neighborhood is more expensive than rent the nice apartment in good neighborhood, especially in suburb area.

It wouldn't be any issue if live in southeast states (except in larger metro in FL), midwest (except in Chicago area), interior west and even northeast, usually in rural area, small town and some larger cities, except for NYC-NJ, Boston, DC and few others when real estate is fairly cheaper or reasonable.

All depend which location at. Our house still cheaper than apartment with everything. Mortgage never will go up if you use FIXED plan. Believe or not, I never hired someone to repair our house. Everything repair by myself and sometime I asked my father in law to help us. The plunger is cost only umm $5? It's pretty easy to do. I don't believe you can't do it. I help someone to rebuild the roof. :) Just once a 20 years.

After 20 years later you still pay rent for the apartment and I paid off and make money for sell the house.

You should watch tv and it's good for learn for you about repair the house by yourself.

Yeah, I can see your point. It's unfortunately for someone who don't have at least 3-6 months advance in backup budget when ANYTHING gone wrong. The owner will lose house.

Apply credit card as backup budget and pay later. It's perfect for emergency. I know you have lot bills from credit card but only way to avoid lose the house.

The way the economy is now, people are not making money selling their homes. They are loosing money.
