Hi my name is Lauren and my son is 10 years old. He needs a really good school. If we find one that works we will move from our home in st. louis mo. write me if you know of one. thank you

Isn't there already a school there? Central Institute for the Deaf?

Indiana School for the Deaf, Maryland School for the Deaf and The Learning Center are very good schools. It depends on what you are looking for so if u can provide more info, I can help.

Public School ??
I used went to mainstreamed school.
If you are in St Louis.... There is St Joseph and Moog and Missouri School for the Deaf.... ofc you know about CID.

Our time in 1970's. We were MSSD Students in Washington DC. They had one student from St. Louis.

My son dearly loved St. Rita School for the Deaf in Cincinnati. I relocated so he would be able to attend.

What about Arkansas school for the Deaf? They have good programs for all ages and different levels. I grew up and graduated from there. Good school! :)

I would NOT recommend The Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) at all because the school is horrible. The students there are so cruel. The staff in the dorm are idiots. The education is not very good there. I know this firsthand from my own experience there from 1986 to 1998. You would be better off sending your child to Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and then when your child reaches middle school, he can go to MSSD (Model Secondary School for the Deaf). Both are NOT oral schools. And they are near Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.

Yes.....look at the Deaf Schools. There is a Deaf School in Missouri, actually.
Not sure how good it is. I totally would get out of St. Louis especially since it's so crime ridden.
Lucia that sucks............but at least you're not all bitter about it, the way some people are. There are many good Deaf schools out there. The California Schools for the Deaf are decent. Kansas School for the Deaf is really really good, not sure which others are. It's great to see parents of dhh kids coming out of the woodwork! YAY!!!!

Did you find a school for your son? Hope you did find one. I used to attend Maryland School for the Deaf.. it's a great school. Everything you need as the tool of Total Communication and Education that teaches very high values of learning as well. Most important as a deaf person you feel worth it .

My daughter attends Jean Massieu School for the Deaf in Utah. I really like the program, it is small but the teachers are great. It is a bi-bi program but there is very little support from the Utah School for the Deaf. So we don't really get a lot of extra services (or money!)

but there is very little support from the Utah School for the Deaf
That's too bad. I really do think most Deaf programs should function as an "branch " of the state School for the Deaf. That way more students could take advantage of the programs and resources. I do know that Utah School for the Deaf is pretty good. One of my friends sent her hoh daughter there for awhile.

Am I correct in thinking that this is a charter school?

You said ISD is good school? NO! It used to be stink education in 80's and 90's! Now it's good education after I graduated.

I attended to Indiana School for the Deaf. I never like this! I wish I would never attend to Deaf school in first place. It's too late for me. :( There wasn't my career for future. I really hate to live in the dorm! I got many warts from my B*TCH roommate gave me a warts on my hands. When I was in elementary school. All girls must get together in the shower. It's real disgusted! I got an extra warts on my feet. I was dying when I live in dorm. The cafeteria tasted TERRIBLE!!!! I had many health problem during deaf school. Like Warts, Virus, Flu, Sinus Infection and Mono. Someone post and said Indiana School for the deaf is good school. No! I was there for 7 years. I talked with my friends who graduated in 2006. She told me about education is still same as 90's. I heard there is such changing for education and sports. The students number were small! I was alike my class of 2000's number was 32 students. Which it's suck!

My Fiance thought my school were large. I told him no. It wasn't large. I told him about population number are small at my school. He said ohhh. His school students number about 12,000. I like it! I wish I would graduate from High School where my fiance goes to. Because there was my career for ceramics, many foreign languages, Arts, Fine arts, graphic design, many different. He love his school! I was alike he was lucky b**tard!

That's why I am not fans my school at all! I don't care what people think about me. I had a worst memories at ISD!

Well theyve revamped things and improved things. Which is good. Remember until very recently, Deaf ed was really bad b/c all the experts thought that we couldn't really learn. Also, ASL based insturcution seemed to be mostly for the kids who couldn't really achieve.
