Telecaption VR-100 Caption Decoder

I am looking for this decoder. I do not want to buy new tv yet. (mainly waiting to have right house with right equipments).

One benefits with this decoder, I can use it with my LCD projector using RCA yellow video cord. It will display the caption when I needed it. That way I can avoid using subtitle.

In past two days, I came cross two movies with no english subtitle. Mad Money and Star Gates. So now I am pushing to get the decoder.

If you have one, PM me and work out a deal agreement to purchase one or cover the shipping cost.

Why projector??? It cost too much to replace the lousy bulb. Should get Espon projector, it have CC built-in.

Anyway, you still can get closed caption box at amazon.com. It cost pretty much as $100+

I am hoping for someone to sell to me for less or free. I just cover the shipping cost.

I did not know about Espon Projector has CC built-in... do you have any links?

Another pro for the decoder... i can carry it to school where they already have Projector. It will save me money than buying Espon Project, predict cost over $1,000.

Epson with CC built-in around $850.
Amazon.com: Epson Powerlite 822p Multimedia Projector: Office Products

I not really know about caption box work with projector because that caption box usually either composite video or coaxial cable (most common on old caption box). Does your projector have coaxial cable port?

The reason I specificly picked that model because it can accept RCA video and do not need to use coaxial cable port.

Just use the RCA yellow video cord. Same as videophone's yellow cord for video feed. Same with DVD Yellow video cord. Projectors by default have S-video, VGA, DVI, and Audio/video (white/yellow)... So i am going to use the Audio/video source of video to display DVD through projector. With decoder, i will by pass the yellow video cord and run it through decoder.

DVD> decoder> TV (if TV can accept DVD directly, then it can accept decoder directly)

or

DVD> decoder> projector (can have video directly)

I am trying to save money for now. But you gave me an idea of getting EPSON Projector. I am very interested because price is reasonable. I am browsing the EPSON website to see if there are another model that interest me for my home theater uses.

Soon I am going to have kids and don't want to have TV mounds for it consume space. If I can set up projector on ceiling and use the wall as to view the movie. No wires to interfere. Built into the wall and avoid too much space. Also can use it to switch over to computer if I have business meeting at my home. It can happen. More options for me to explore.

That's composite video. ;)

Someone suggest to use ATSC box. But I still find annoying to see extra cord.

DVD player > Caption box > projector

I wouldn't recommend a projector for everyday use due to the light bulbs for it cost a fortune to replace. I would just recommend get a LCD HDTV with built in captions. That's my opinion.

Bingo... Composite video. That the word I was looking for. I just attended EPSON retail show room to see if it works. I challenge the reps as they knew nothing. They allowed me to borrow their loaner to see if it actually works using composite video.

Rep told me that it make sense its education projector to have CC but not home theater has only DVD. I want to see both together. So today when i get home, i will experiment on the education projector and run it through composite video source to see if it picks up CC from any DVD player.

I am also think about traveling to EXPO with this projector, less equipment to carry.

Now I will do my research on all projector and look under education projectors to see if any do provide DVD and closed caption in same projector. Then I can travel with my family or business trip. Easy to work with as it will convert laptop or TV or DVD. Multi uses.

I know HDTV can do those things but its HUGE!

By the way... what is ATSC box?

Deaf,

Will a Sears Solid State TeleCaption device do? It's one of the earliest one but still works. (I know it worked the last time we used it!)

I can give it to you free.

PM me.

HOLY SMOKING, that's ancient box.

(see bottom in that picture)

unfortunately, no composite video available.

thanks for clarifying the issue of composite video. Yuck... its too old for me and too big. I prefer the VR-100 as size is perfect and good with many projector and tv. Easy to work with and fail-safe closed caption get through.

TeleCaption II have composite video input and output but just one video and one mono audio(not stereo) plug for one for input and one for output you just don't worry about speaker they could read the captions. Sorry does not have Stereo :-(

No No, don't give it out for free. You might get a fortune if you get to sell it to a museum someday! :D

I still have it too but I don't even know where it is stored at. Probably in my parents' attic, heh.

I have the loaner and tested everything. It worked like charm.

Recommend it. One less box to worry about. I would use ATSC to get tv over the air to watch TV on Projector.

THe model that I am talking about...

Epson PowerLite 83+ Multimedia Projector, Overview - Product Information - Epson America, Inc.

it does have closed caption!!! Awesome! It work fine with composite video. Did not bother with ATSC (I already had one, RF Modulator).

Alright that all for today.

Why don't you ask the school to provide a decoder for when you need it?

when you work as sub contractor, you do not have a lot options. I am already with subcontractor with school. I want this for my home and business. The projector and closed caption built in are always found in education department of any products. That what I have learned.

i still have that ancient box at my home, just covered with dusts. I talk myself that i want to open it up and explore what it is inside. Just like i destroyed VP 100.
