One problem I have with Nexium is taking it at the right time. It's supposed to be taken 30 minutes before the largest daily meal. However, because of my Hubby's work schedule I never know what times we will be eating. So sometimes I don't have 30 minutes advance notice.

The other problem I have may or may not be related to the Nexium. I'm trying to figure it out.

For several months now I've been experiencing bad tremors in my hands and legs. The hand ones making it very hard for me to sign and almost impossible to fingerspell or hand write notes. Not to mention how bad it looks for me to be shaking. My doctor checked me and said my nervous system is fine; it's not MS or anything related.

Well, recently I happened to read that tremors can be a side effect of Nexium. So, that's a possibility.

Other than possible side effects, it seems to work well.

Have you experienced any side effects from Nexium?

:aw:I'm sorry this is happening. I've heard in general of people having problems with Nexium but do not know anyone personally so can't help any more than that.

Ugh, that doesn't sound like fun. :(
I never use any type of drug, not even Tylenol, because of the side effects. Have you ever heard of using Young Living peppermint essential oil for heartburn? I did some looking around and a lot of people have had great success using that instead of Nexium. Best part? No negative side effects! You just put a few drops in water as soon as heartburn comes on. One person I read about did that for 3 weeks (after first trying max doses of Nexium) and now they don't need anything! :)

I thought peppermint made acid reflux worse?

It does with me . I can't use peppermint toothpaste , I ran out off my fennel toothpaste and brought some peppermint toothpaste and my heartburn started to act up again . I also try to eat my dinner early so I will not get heartburn. I do not take any meds . Can't you eat your dinner on nights when you do not know when your husband will be home? Or eat part of it .

I think I was on it for a while...it worked and I have no side effect. Very expensive! Thank god for insurance! Anyway, you might want to research something like natural vitamins or something to with your heartburn. I was misdisgoios (not sure how spell it) and it was my gall bladder so I got them removed (both stone and gall bladder) so not much heart burn since then. Only when I have Italian night or spicy it will affect but I won't stop eat them. I just take tums and I am good to go. If I am out of Tums then I'll drink milk.

We like to eat together. He's late many nights, not just a few. I just stay up late after. I don't go to bed right after eating.

I've had nexium before and no I've never had that side effect as described in your post.

Yes, the VA provides my meds at no cost to me.

I might need some more testing but I don't know if they'll do it.

I do know that my dad and his mother had digestive problems; it might be hereditary. We three also tend to migraines and stressful personalities. Sadly, my dad used alcohol to cope with his issues, and it eventually killed him. My grandmother (his mom) lived all her life eating nutritiously, exercising, and maintaining a steady healthy weight. Yet, she still had digestive problems; she called it a double stomach. (We're like cows???) :giggle:

How long?

I don't know if it's the Nexium or more of that stupid auto-immune garbage, like my hives were.

I trying to figure it out.

hmmm.... I think 2 weeks??? I had a very terrible flu so I had to take heavy strong medications. that's why doctor prescribed nexium to protect my stomach.

I hope your doc/specialist will be able to figure it out.... :(

A friend takes Nexium and has never had a problem with it. The tremors sounds like something neurological and should be monitored closely if it persists. Possibly try something else and stop the Nexium to see if it stops but if it keeps on I'd see a neurologist and possibly have a EMG or nerve conduction studies done to determine what it is. If it is something neurological it could seriously affect your job if it progressed :(

I'm currently take Nexium everyday - in the morning and 1 hour before meal. I recommended you to drink water only when medicine is start work for 1 hour.

Yes, there is side effects - I got much gas and abdominal pain - especially in the morning. Take Nexium at night gave me a cramping and bloated - that was bad idea. The diarrhea caused by medicine is less common but I'm more constipated. (it was IBS as primary but Nexium could make little worse, even stop Nexium didn't make much difference to me).

I don't know if I experience tremor after taking Nexium since 2010.

If diarrhea or constipation are problematic, you could try Align. I have bad experience with high fiber diet - made my IBS went crazy and less stabilized.

In past, I took Nexium about 5 minutes before meal made me bloated and feel like I need have bowel movement. That why I don't eat breakfast anymore because my intestine is very active in the morning.

Interesting...I hadn't heard that, but going on what I know of the oils that I use, I'm going to bet that this peppermint would not, (in fact, would almost guarantee it...I found info on A LOT of people that use it for acid reflux with great results and no problems.)

There are a lot of products out there and even "100% Pure" essential oils that claim to be peppermint but are actually adulterated versions of true peppermint. That's why you have to be so careful where you get essential oils...I just heard the other day about a woman who used "lavender oil" on a burn, (I always use lavender on burns works great!) and ended up in the hospital because it made the burn much worse. Turns out, that company was adding a chemical to their supposedly therapeutic-grade lavender and it was that that caused the problem.

So yeah, it's probably something that peppermint products commonly contain that is bad for acid reflux and not true, therapeutic-grade essential oil. :)

Unfortunately, it isn't work for me because my heartburn caused by hereditary and some of family have Barrett's esophagus.

Yes, Nexium is expensive but my insurance covered it - 90 days supply for $3.

Nexium will goes generic next year.

The peppermint is very helpful remedy for IBS - to smooth the intestine and I drink peppermint tea when I had IBS flare up.

At the hospital, we have lots of pick up and drop offs with people who are new on Nexium. Mainly people experiencing tremors and scared by them. It's a decently common side-effect. Might want to check out a different medication if they become too bothersome. =(
