Just curious to know if anyone has UltraZoom on their Naidas and how they find it?

I always thought I've had UltraZoom on my Naidas but have since found out that I've got Fixed Directional only and curious as to what people find with using UltraZoom?

Do people find it better in noise?

I'm hoping my Audi will activate it to at least allow me to try it :)

I'm guessing that's something new with the Spice series? I do have my zoom programs but rarely remember to use them.

I got the RemoteMic the other day. Now to just remember to have people use it & get it back from them when done. May find a way to put my phone # on it so if I do forget it the user can call me.

I was told UltraZoom was on any Naidas but I've just looked and from what I can see its only on spice.

Glad you got the remote mic. From my uxerstanding it works like the FM system to hear hear in noise and I find my FM great. :) Putting your number on there will be handy as you never know when you could leave it behind or loose it by mistake :)

The new AB processor coming out will have UltraZoom, I wonder just how much of an improvement it will be for us CI users in noisy situations. I'm looking forward to trying it.

I don't think I do.
I have the "economical level" Naidas (Naida III dAz) and from what I understand, they don't have any of the more publicized sound processing algorithms. (http://www.phonak.com/content/dam/p...Naida_I_III_dAZ_Product_Information_V1_00.pdf)

I'd love to try some aids with more features. I get a ton of benefit from my Naidas (from no speech understanding to pretty good in quiet) but it would be awesome if the companies were less focused on profit and more focused on patient/user benefit...but maybe I'm just a silly idealist who thinks people should benefit from technology not profit from people.

I'm thinking that maybe the older Naidas won't link with the new AB because of the older Naidas not having UltraZoom and the new AB does have UltraZoom?

You are very right there and that's what I think as well. I would love to have all the features including the new speech in wind feature on the new Phonak HAs.

Just curious, if you are a cochlear implant candidate, would the new partnership between AB and Phonak make you more likely to get an AB implant?

I am a candidate. I still prefer Cochlear (mostly based on watching cochlear implant surgeries in person and talking to the surgeons who vastly prefer Cochlear (for reliability and the surgical insertion technique).

But I'm seriously considering whether greater reliability is better than a partnership with a company who has 40 decades in sound processing.

NaidaUP and I were having this convo the other day.. this was a game changer for me and now it's a toss up..I love cochlear and was pretty confident in my choice for when I'm approved...now I'm confused again lol

I know the feeling.
Once I get my insurance to approve cochlear implants, I don't know what company I'd choose. MedEl is the only company that has deep/complete cochlear coverage BUT they are behind on processing.
AB has a bad record with implant failures but now they are partnered with phonak and have decades of expierence behind them.
Cochlear is the favorite company of the surgeons I know (and greatly respect). They don't have a waterproof processor (I LOVE swimming and outdoor sports) but cochlear's processor is apparently ok to use in water. What?

The more you know about something, the harder it is to make a decision.

Cochlear's N5 is ok in clean/clear water and only for a short amount of time. For actual swimming, if you went with Cochlear, you would want to invest in Cochlear's Aqua Accessory so the N5 would be "waterproof".

I decided on AB before finding out about the new processor. I will be able to use he new processor with my Naida.

I do think cochlear is more reliable but I will only be able to get one implant so having AB link to my naida is great.

It maybe another 20 years before I can get a CI as altho I've been approved they won't do the surgery on me due to a rare medical problem.

Think you've got to decide on whether the working together of the HA and CI will be good for you. That's the only different really in them, I believe :)

Turns out I've had UltraZoom activated all along and never noticed so anyone with per spice isn't missing out on I much, haha!

well that's awkward lol

and ya I would have to hear everyone elses opinion on the ha and the new AB implant working together and how it works for them first before deciding! Plus apparently cochlear is also coming out with something new so we shall see...lol I have no rush since I have to wait at least 3 years anyway -_-

Cochlear will be coming out with something, I've been told it will be called N6. Not sure when it will actually come out tho

I have 4 programs for my Nadias- the first is for "everyday" listening, the second is for noisy situations, the third is DAI only, the fourth is "music" aka (that stupid program I have to cycle through before I can hear the person who is talking to me when I've been listening to music via DAI). I also have an automatic half ambient sound, half DAI program.

I can only really tell the difference between the "everyday" program and the noise program, which I guess has some sort of zoom.

It seems that these "special programs" (obviously not including DAI programs) only benefit people with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. Beyond that it seems like a bunch of hype (to me).

I agree...I have a "noise" program on mine and I don't find it's any better for noise than my everyday seeing as it just picks up noises and makes them louder..like doors slamming and drawers and stuff...I find it useless lol
