Any suggestions on a good ci product

I have been doing some research and came across a company that specializes in Cochlear Implants the name of the company is Cochlear Americas and one of their products, I believe, is called the Nucleus 5.

Has anyone heard of this product or company and if so would they recommend it or is there another product/company that someone would be able to recommend.

theres 3 companies that I can name off of my head ( i have both of the companies implanted), advanced Bionics, Cochlear America, and Mel med (i forgot the name lol)
 
3rd one is med el lol all companies are reputable I'd say cochlear is the most popular then advanced bionics then med el..I know a lot of ppl with cochlear and many with advanced bionics ..all 3 companies have similar products but have different processors and patented parts of their product so I'd say research each one and talk to a rep from each company and then decide what you think would fit you the best. Also take into account sometimes CI surgeons don't work with all 3 companies products so keep that in mind too.

I would also see if you can find a CI Support group in your area. This way you can find out from other CI users what their experience is like.

I am very familiar with the N5 because I use one in both ears. I am very happy with them but as far as recommending them you are the really best person to decide what is right for you.
 
YOU yourself are the one who will need to decide if this device will be the best one for you. Research the implants, find out the pros and cons, etc., talk to people who have the implants, discuss things with the CI audie and surgeon, etc. etc. etc. etc. Basically, do your homework.
 
my hub chose cochlear because of the upgrade stuff rather than AB but AB sounds more frequents than Cochlear.
 
It is like comparing Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.

They all will get you from here to there.

Your surgeon will recommend which is best for you.
 
I would choose Cochlear because new Nucelus system (sound processor) allow you to go in water up to 3 meter deep. It's waterproof. So if you sweat alot from workout or on a job, I would recommend Cochlear.

the N5 is not 100% waterproof, just water resistant.

World’s only submergible behind-the-ear sound processor, meaning that the sound processor is not only water resistant, but it can be submerged into three feet of still water for up to 30 minutes without any worries.† Not intended for swimming.

Advanced Bionics now has a completely waterproof processor called the Neptune, you can go swimming and bathe with the Neptune and it'll keep on working.

Yes. Although, I would suggest that no one go with the doctor's recommendation immediately without doing any research. Doctors are often given kickbacks for showing preference toward a particular company.
 
My first choice was Cochlear inc but my ci adui recommended Med-El instead as she said that it worked better with prelingually deaf adults and children.

Very true, Cochlear Ltd got sued for that.

Yet the hearing instrument specialists always get away with it. They often sell a particular brand of a hearing aid just to get kickbacks. I know this for a fact.

Seems that timing re which Implant to get plays a part. When I think back almost 5 years ago when I was in the process of getting my Implant. What actually happened. I actually had a patients' info package from Cochlear Corp explaining everything-prior to becoming bilateral DEAF in 2006. There was no discussion at that point of time which of the 3 to get when approved in June/07. Seems there was a "recall/something" with Cochlear and MedEl was not then used very much plus Advanced Bionics- just came out with Harmony. That is what was used in my case. I had no problem-still don't-with what was recommended for me. A cousin of mine chose Med El -last year. Advanced Bionics at that point was not used due to "production problems" which have been solved. Again Cochlear had "other problems".

Timing?

Just how much does one understand the electronics of Cochlear Implants to evaluate the difference between them?

Some thoughts in what actually happened.
