I was from Ontario, Canada and had lived on the island on Lake Huron. Now I am back home here in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA since I left Canada last September of 2013. I need to be with my sister and her family here. I am Elder (at 69 years old now).

I think she was trying to call you attention to the fact that the spelling "hear" is referring to hearing sound while "here" is the spelling used in referring to here as a place.
