What's your countries Anthem?

New Zealand's Anthem both in English and Maori....

God Defend New Zealand
English Version

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

Men of every creed and race,
Gather here before Thy face,
Asking Thee to bless this place,
God defend our free land.
From dissension, envy, hate,
And corruption guard our State,
Make our country good and great,
God defend New Zealand.

Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
But, should foes assail our coast,
Make us then a mighty host,
God defend our free land.
Lord of battles in Thy might,
Put our enemies to flight,
Let our cause be just and right,
God defend New Zealand.

Let our love for Thee increase,
May Thy blessings never cease,
Give us plenty, give us peace,
God defend our free land.
From dishonour and from shame,
Guard our country's spotless name,
Crown her with immortal fame,
God defend New Zealand.

May our mountains ever be
Freedoms ramparts on the sea,
Make us faithful unto Thee,
God defend our free land.
Guide her in the nations' van,
Preaching love and truth to man,
Working out Thy glorious plan,
God defend New Zealand.

Here is the whole song of the United States, although the first stanza is only sung.

Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And the national anthem of Germany, where I lived in for 5 months:

"Deutschland Lied"

Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach laßt uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand.
Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
Blühe, deutsches Vaterland.

English Version - "Song of Germany"

Unity and right and freedom
For the German Fatherland;
Let us all strive to this goal
Brotherly, with heart and hand.
Unity and rights and freedom
Are the pledge of fortune grand.
Prosper in this fortune's glory,
Prosper German fatherland.

O Canada!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee

Since Canada has two national languages, English and French, our national anthems are always sung in English first and then in French always. The Canadian anthem is "O'Canada!"

O Canada!
Our home and native land,
True patriot love,
In all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise
The True North strong and free,
From far and wide, O Canada
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land
Glorious and free,
O Canada!
We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada!
We stand on guard for thee

O Canada!
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux.
Ton front est ceint,
De fleurons glorieux.
Il sait porter la croix.
Ton histoire est une épopée,
des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur,
de foi trempée,
protègera
nos foyers et nos droits
protègera
nos foyers et nos droits

O Canada was first sung on June 24th, 1880 in the "Pavillon des Patineurs" in Quebec City’s "Congrès national des Canadiens-Français" on St. Jean-Baptiste Day. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer known as "Canada’s National Musician." French lyrics to accompany the music were written by a Judge, Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, and have remained the same since original authorship. The song gained steadily in popularity as several English versions were developed over the years; the version on which the official English lyrics are based was written in 1908 by Mr. Justice Robert Stanley Weir. The official English version includes changes recommended in 1968 by a Special Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Commons. "O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, 100 years after it was first sung publicly.

One of my Canadian friends made me learn the National Anthem of Canada, and I sing it sometimes when ppl make jokes on Canada. It is funny to see ppl's reactions on their face when I sing it. :laugh2:

I never learned the French version though but the French version is not even the same words as the English ones. Can you find the English translation for the ADers here?

Edited to add the translation of the French version:

O Canada! Land of our forefathers
Thy brow is wreathed with a glorious garland of flowers.
As in thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic of the most brilliant exploits.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights
Will protect our homes and our rights.

Yep, it's weird that the French version is completely different than the English version. Interesting huh?

Reminds me of Czechoslovakia before they splitted up, they had two national anthems, in Czech and in Slovak.

Oh, Bush.. your twin daughters were drunken girls got probation for underage drinking. Where is your displince?

Oh, Bush... you wanted to complete your daddy's business by sending our US troops to war in Iraq and Syria.

Oh, Bush..shame on you...our job unemployment goes higher than usual.

Oh, Bush...we don't want to see your face again for next four years by not voting you for your presidential reelection!!

Oh, Bush.. we FOOK you!! Go home and sell greasy oil bumps to your greedy oil buddies. We consider that you are off better as oil man than our US president!!
