Another question, this time about my implant

The next time you see your audi, ask. It's your right.

But if it was my right, wouldnt they send it to me with my ci results?

I am generally hearing at 30db and 35 at some frequencies

Which electrodes does twitching occur at or can it occur at any electrode?

Neither have I.... this is new to me too... i am going to ask for mine when i go on the 27th....

You have a right to your mapping information -- or I'm pretty certain you do. Things may be different there than they are here in the U.S.

Similar as me.. 35 in the lows and 30 in the mid and highs.

Interesting thing.. you had CI longer than me, you got yours when you were very young and you should be able to block the background noise whereas I am only new to CI and got it at 30, i am able to block background noise in certain places like i can block traffic (it is very loud here) and hear birds sing. It wasn't easy at first but i trained myself to do that.

My guess is you do need some sort of hearing therapy to help you to train yourself with sounds.
I went to Ear foundation last weekend and found it very helpful, it is expensive but I was getting the advice i needed and will be going back on the 19th june for hour session.

I understand that you cannot change Audi but if you are not happy with the service she gave you can you ask for different one? Each centres are different.

I never had different audi since i was implanted... my audi only gives me appt dates she is available to work with me, i check and confirm with her, and never through the reception. I can ask for someone else but i am happy with her i have no need to change.

Will jot down your problems etc and will try my best to have them answered for you when i go to Birmingham.

Haven't you got college tomorrow??

Has anybody had any more problems with their ci??

During the first 2 years I had problems with my CI, it keep stopping itself all the time so I was given many replacements, even the Cochlear Rep had to come and see me, they gave me a body worn CI for about6 months or a year then I was given the newer model at the time 3G. The problem occured with the Espirt 22.

What does Hearing Therapy involve?

Yes I have got college *roll eyes* I can never sleep on a sunday anyway LOL!!

The most thing I say at the moment is What? or Pardon?

And the most thing my mum and sister is saying at the mo is PUT YOUR IMPLANT ON!! and I go its on thank you. they go is it working, i go yes thanks.

Umm... It is possible that one or few electrodes is too close to your nerve hence non auditory stimulation.
From my experince I felt as if i was about to pass out and my right eyelid was flickering. When i had 4 electrodes turned off (the middle ones i think it was 10,11,12,13) it had been much better since.

For the first 4 years I had my initial CI, I couldn't hear very well. Once 6 high frequency electrodes were turned off on each CI, it made a significant difference in my hearing. I'm now able to hear 97% of speech with my left CI and 100% with my right. I've also found that ever since these electrodes were deactivated, I have a much easier time hearing the TV up close and from a distance. I can also hear speech better in noise as well as female voices in general. Prior to these changes, I had a great deal of difficulty hearing in noise, I could not understand female voices nor could I understand the TV. I've also learned that I'm able to hear on the phone (with my right CI only since my left CI doesn't sound as clear) much better than I could before.

I tend to hear better when people are talking near me, but I cant hear very well in background noise and etc.
even sometimes on the bus I feel very one sided even though I wear both and it sound really quiet when both are obviously working. I'll see how I am doing tomorrow at college.

Even people with normal hearing have difficulty hearing in noise.

Having said that, having 2 CIs definitely makes a difference in my case. When I try to understand speech with one CI, it's far more difficult than it is with 2.

When I see my audi on Wednesday, I plan to ask her what I can do to improve my ability to hear on the phone with my left CI. When I compare the sound quality of my right CI to my left, the right sounds much clearer. According to my audi, there isn't a significant difference in my ability to hear with either of them in quiet or in noise, but that's in the sound booth and not in real life. I remember during the early days of my CI activation panicking at the thought of traveling on my own by bus or train and being unable to hear well enough to communicate. I still have difficulty with some voices from time to time, but it isn't anything like it used to be once the high frequencies on my CIs were turned off.
