Do you think I should request for a new mapping? Because I do think my implant is in a dire need of a turn up. But last time they couldnt or wouldnt turn it up because of my eye twitching. I dont think that should stop them. I think they should turn it up and see if my eye continues to twitch in the normal world environment.
I havent not had a volume adjustment in 2 year because of this

You haven't had a mapping in 2 years? My goodness. You are way overdue for a map. If your audi refuses to set up an appointment, find another. Mappings are usually done once a year or every 6 months.

I have had mappings in the past 2 years but they have left it at the same volume and levels as it was originally due to my eye

HI Lissssa

Thats interesting, Your Audi may say that it's common but how come you are the only one i heard of who STILL have the twitch where as other people have ways of going round the twitch by turning off the electrodes or lower the electrodes that affects twitch but increases the other electrodes and had the problem solved, I heard of two thats all.

Let me ask you few things and i hope it would help me to determine how to advise you.

When did the twitch start?
Have you had same Audi since your twitch started?
Have they tested each electrode at the level where your twitch is obvious?
You said it only happens while you were at CI centre, Do you feel that you are not getting max benifit from your CI?

To me it seems like one or two of your electrode is causing the problem and thats need to be turned off or lowered so that the map can work around it.

Have you had beep test (the one that beeps 3 electrodes at a time and you tell which is quieter or too loud) This how i found my discomfort electrodes which i had turned off and i was able to increase my levels to max as i am comfortable with.

I am going to Birmingham this thurs for "Cochlear (our brand)" event where new implanted users compare problems/tips and ask for advice, I will see if i can ask them about you (no names mentioned or anything) Ok?

Hey Charlotte!! I now know your nickname heheeh!!
To be honest I think Manchester have been wasting my time and not actually trying to do anything for the twitch

Im not sure when it started but I *think* iv had it right frm the start. It only occurs at the CI centre
It has happened with different audis. For the first couple of years I experienced dizziness and room spinning but never told anyone then it moved onto eye twitching, remember all this only occurs in the room when i am hooked up

Yes they tested each electrode and saw which electrode at it occured. They even upped the volume to where the twitch occurs and didnt go further up cos it just kept getting stronger as it gets louder. so they turned it down to where the twitch occured and found it actually stopped at the volume i had it on and still have it on.
My ci does sound quiet at time, i think it needs turning up but how

Really? I know many CI users and none of them have eye twitching.

Yes actually the audi said it is quite common for ci user to experience eye twitching OUTSIDE the ci centre but im totally opposite I only have it when im hooked up

Yes that would be great if you could ask at Birmingham!!

Charlotte is right about the fact that eye twitching can be eliminated by turning off electrodes or lowering them.

Thanks Lissa that clears up a bit and i understand bit more about your problem.

Another question... how many electrodes did the twitch occurs??

and sorry, another question... Why didn't your audi turn off the electrodes that you are experincing the twitch?

Would you go on the Ear foundation website there is adult, teen forum for CI users called Sounding Board, it is where problems are answered and there is often someone from the profession replying the question? It's obviously free.

I dont know how many electrodes the twitch occurs and i dont know why they didnt turn them off. They dont tell me anything!!!

Back in October I told them that I couldnt hear much. I was really struggling and barely able to hear. The audi started going on about its the environment and when people is talking is what was making my implant be like that and background noise etc etc. She didnt adjust my implant. I guess my brain or my implant has gotten used to the quiet volume.

Lissa,

Do you ask for a copy of your map? If not, you should. That will help explain alot of what goes on during your mapping. Also, be sure to ask questions about anything you don't understand.

Copy of map? I only get a copy of what db I am hearing at frequencies

No offense, but it sounds (no pun intended) like your audi isn't doing alot to help you hear the best you can and seems to be blaming everything on the environment. If I were you, I'd see a different audi.

Over here we dont really get a choice of who we see. We just get seen by whoever is there

The audis usually change every time I go so I usually get a different person every time.

Your audi should give you a computer printout of your map. It will indicate what features are being used on each program (i.e. autosensitivity, whisper, ADRO), the speech strategy being used (ACE, SPEAK), the speed you are using (1800 Hz, 1200 Hz, 900 Hz), your T&C levels and your dynamic range.
