Another MUST READ for parents of dhh kids!

It does not say nothing about the d/HOH kids.

Some of the statements are true that we are not heroes as we have struggled hard to please the hearing society especially our hearing parents. You are talking about the disability. We don't have the disability except not be able to hear sounds. We just need accommodations whether we have ASL teachers in Deaf schools or hearing teachers with ASL interpreters in mainstream schools. Most of the time like in the old days, we were not allowed to have accommodations like learning how to sign ASL and then get the ASL interpreters so that we can understand what we wanted to know in the hearing classrooms. We need communications in the hearing society like paper and pen or have them learn ASL. Most of the time, I noticed that many hearing people want to learn from lifeprint or get some lessons from Deaf people just to communicate if that help but most important thing is to go to the ASL class where they can learn how to fingerspell and sign vocabulary words including the Deaf Culture lessons. The hearing person can not learn how to do that all by himself or herself. They need to go to ASL class if they are interest in learning about Deaf people and want to interact with them. I don't like to see hearing people go gung ho or very excited about meeting d/Deaf people including Hard of Hearing people. I know what that mean when they do that. They are hoping that they will make them become like them as normal people or hearing people. They are wrong as we will never change. We will always be like that for the rest of our lives. Being d/Deaf or HOH is good to us. Some of them don't think so. They were brainwashed by the hearing authorities and by hearing parents that they are ashamed of being deaf or hard of hearing. Not right to be control by that system like that. :(

Beo, I posted this b/c very often dhh kids get treated like this too.....

Yeah... I saw it more as a discouragement of inspiration porn, which can happen with anything that could be considered to be a disability.

Aside, I saw some dumb posts in the comments that I couldn't reply to because HuffPost got weird and presents no alternatives for FB, which won't load on this computer.
