I went to school tonight to go to the tutoring center where I had hoped that I could get some tutoring for the 2 weeks of math I need to get caught up on. Well I went in and I sat there for 45 minutes. No one said a word to me. None of the tutoring supervisors came up to me and asked me if I needed any help with anything or what I needed help on. The only person that said anything to me was another girl who asked me if I was a math tutor. I said no. The bad part was that they needed twice as many tutors than they had as the biology tutor alone was swamped with 5 kids from the same biology class. The English tutor was off to herself not occupied. And the math tutor was hogged up by two other freshmen.

My only other option with university tutors is to pay someone 7-10 dollars an hour for private tutoring. Only problem with that is that I am short on hours at work, I only make $9/hour, and I would still have to drive 45 minutes to an hour just to get to campus so it is simply unaffordable for me to pay for a private tutor right now.

With all my bad luck this semester at ATU I am seriously considering transferring to UACCM which is a small 2 year community college. Its a slightly further drive but the tuition is likely cheaper so it would likely balance out as far as expenses go.

Right now Jiro is tutoring me via MSN. But it was altogether a lousy night for me.

Did you approach anyone in the tutoring center to let them know why you were there and what you needed?

Dixie,

Do you receive accommodations through your school's disability office? If so, perhaps they could contact the department in which you're majoring to locate a tutor. The disability office would pay the tutor as an accommodation to you. This is what I had to do for one of my social work classes since there were no tutors available in the tutoring center who were familiar with senior level social work courses.

I get free tutoring thru my disability office you should ask about that
