How Anna embraced Bahamas
How Anna embraced Bahamas | The World | The Australian
MORE of Anna Nicole Smith's personal life has surfaced, with romantic pictures published yesterday showing her embracing Bahamas Immigration Minister Shane Gibson, who now faces allegations of giving the former centrefold preferential treatment.
Mr Gibson's mother was looking after Smith's five-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, when the 39-year-old blonde model died in a Florida casino hotel last week.
Smith's residency in the Bahamas was approved by Mr Gibson on the grounds that she owned a million-dollar waterfront property on the island.
But US property developer Ben Thompson, one of many who had a sexual relationship with Smith, claims he has repeatedly told Mr Gibson he did not give Smith the home as a gift, as she maintained, and that he wants it back.
Meanwhile, Smith's estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, has questioned her granddaughter's safety in the care of Howard Stern, Smith's lawyer, who claims he is Dannielynn's father.
Tabloids say at least one witness has linked Stern with the drugs that killed Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel, a lethal combination of the narcotic methadone and psychiatric drugs, in the Bahamas five months ago.
"I do have a problem with her being with Howard Stern," Ms Arthur said. "I had a daughter and I had a grandson. He was there when both of them died. Now I only have a granddaughter left, and now he has her, and I'm afraid for her."
In a CNN interview last year, she said of Mr Stern: "There was only three people in that room (when Daniel Smith died). Now if Howard Stern marries Anna and she ends up dead, then who does the money go to?"
Ms Arthur has sided with paparazzo Larry Birkhead, who has a paternity suit pending in Los Angeles claiming he is Dannielynn's father.
Zsa Zsa Gabor's attention-seeking husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, also claims to be the father. He plans to file a paternity challenge this week to gain custody of Dannielynn.
Mr Stern's name appears on the birth certificate, but Mr Thompson says Smith tried to tell him he was the girl's father, even though he has had a vasectomy.
Birkhead believes Smith was desperate to deny his paternity because she did not want him to share in the potential windfall from the $US1.6 billion estate of her late husband, oil tycoon J.Howard Marshall, whom she married when he was 89.
He died 14 months later and his family has spent more than a decade fighting Smith in the courts over the will.
Mr Stern's relationship with Smith has been a subject of discussion, as witnesses say she appeared to hold him in contempt when they were together.
"She ignored him," boxing promoter Aaron Braunstein told the New York Daily News. "She treated him like a little bug. Like a mosquito."
A woman with Ms Arthur, who said she was Smith's aunt Elaine, said Smith had a history of substance abuse and sexual relationships that ended in disaster.
"She once had everything going for her, but by the time she married J. Howard Marshall in 1994, she was doing a lot of drugs - a lot of them were prescription drugs, which she was abusing with alcohol," the woman told London's Daily Mail.
"She woke me at 3am one day saying she'd seen demons having orgies in the sky.
"She also had a lot of relationships. She was bisexual, seeing males and females, but no one special, and when she got upset she'd cry that no one loved her."
Smith paid out almost a million dollars to a former nanny who claimed she was forced into having lesbian sex with the one-time Playboy Pet of the Year.
