Angry mom grabs son off street amid Baltimore riot

People who wear a mask when committing a crime are doing so to hide their identity. If you believe in what you're doing and that's it's right, then you should show your face. Whatever a person's position is on parenting, at least she cared to get her son off the street and prevented him from adding to the violence. If more parents like her, perhaps the crime rate wouldn't be as high as it is? You may not agree with her actions but her child is home safe tonight (ticked off perhaps) but alive and not in jail. Thumbs up for Mom....

Just because one believes there actions are right, doesnt mean one has to not protect themslves.
Im sure every looter bekives their actions wrong.. they sre still doing it. They sre criminals. FeW criminaks commit.crimes thinking.its right. Its a game. Sometimes yiu csught mostbtimes your not..right wrong, isnt much in it..
Its sboit the loot, the thrill....thats it.
We both prob sgree most in this looting snd burning sre.there.to loot snd burn....hsve some.thrills, screw with the man, get free ****...
Freedy being murdered snd the cops getying s paid vecation really is second.to.free.vodka and looted stuff...
Sucks
But true...
Thid kinds thing eill keep hspinkng.every time cops murder.some dude.for nothing snd get vecations...

Not sure if you have kids....I do, 3 boys....and NO, I would not want them in jail...I would do everything I could to keep them out of jail and on the straight and narrow...and since I'm 5'2 and they all are almost 6 foot...and if they were in those riots...a baseball bat I would bring with me to get them out of there and home....

You wouldnt wsnt to be esndering sround s riot sgsinst the cops eith a Bat..
Sure way to get shof
Crazy lady...
Sometimes you just have to let your boys suffer the consequences to. their actions...

Graham said she “lost it” when she recognized her son in a crowd of protesters.

She said her son told her later that his instinct when he saw her was to run because he knew she was strict.

Graham said her son joined her watching the news coverage of the rioting Monday night and they soon saw comments about the video of her slapping her son on Facebook.

Even Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts commented on the video.

"I wish I had more parents who took charge of their kids tonight," he said, according to CBS Baltimore.

A single Mom of 6....Kudos to her!!!

who was watchinf thr other 5 kids when she was at the riot when she recognized her son?
fair question

Did you see their relative sizes? He was taller than the mom. With his hood on she couldn't grab his ear, and I doubt he would feel a pinch on the butt.

I wouldn't slap my daughter in the face either but for that mom, drastic times require drastic measures. She had to move fast and hard before he got away or got into trouble.

Yeah , a slap in the face hurt less than a bullet to the head too. I am sure the mom was worried for about her son getting shot or arrest for throwing rocks at the polices.
A police said he wish there more parents like this mother. This all over the news , most people think she the right thing and I do too.

...tough love is allowing someone you love to siffer the consequnces of their. Actions not intervenening to.prevent them.from doing the actions
Tough love.
You do the crime, you do the time
Not you dobthe crime, mama will fome save you and whoop yoir ass so you dont serve any time...
Thats enabling...
She actually didnt do him any tough nothing...
He didn't do the crime, so there's no time to serve. If he did do the crime, then yes, he should face the consequences. But mom stopped him before he went too far.

Of course, a parent should intervene to prevent a child from doing wrong, especially a dangerous wrong.

I think the mask he was wearing and hiding from the public had to use it because there might be tear gas only that he did not have goggle (like glasses) so that he does not get tears and not have to breath in the smoke bomb. He had reason to use the mask just like the police officers wearing the masks and the helmets. So big deal.

the only mask that will help you from tear gas is gas mask.. not ski mask. it's not going to help you at all from tear gas. not a tiny bit.

there is only one reason to wear a mask at riot.... to hide your identity because police video-records everybody and will use it against them at later time.

btw - what mask? I don't see riot police wearing masks... just helmets

You are correct. When I was in Navy Boot Camp, our company had to put on gas masks and then enter a small building. When we all got in and wondered what was going to happen next, the instructor told us to take off our masks. The room was filled with tear gas. After a minute, the door was opened and we rushed out coughing and had burning eyes. Only lots of water to flush it out helped. Some of the guys threw up.

Im not sure re the laws in Md. But isnt tossing s rock at police s.crime, which she witnessed him do, and isnt wesring a mask in the commision of a crime, the tossing thr rock st police itself a crime. As well as being oreent during a riot?

yes. The ski mask is not to protect against tear gas or cs gas, its to protect your identity during the crime.
In the quebec city pdortests and shut down. We used viniger soaked bandanas for tear gas, whch worked to a point. We also had medics to help,, and hockey sticks to shoot tear gas canisters back at cops, which worked, we also had allot of people with gas masks, and with extra filters.i Was shot with a rubber bullet 2 times in my back, running from a line of assulting cops, but theyre slow in all the gear...compared to our flying cullumns...boy did it hurt like hell....we.used sling shots and paint.balls aimed.at their sheilds.and.eye visor to obsruct thier visiblity, and that worked..went on.for days that fight. ..the french chick the medic who treated me, she was smoookkin too....it was wicked....when the inner city. was drowning n tear gas, it was locals who were acually helping us, putting water on the street in buckets for us, as we were batling the cops....dsy 3 hearie peoplw started banging onbthebrsiking thstvsre allbthriugh inner town, along.stairways, it got so loud theoussnds of people doing this i coukd feel the vibrations it was hypntotic....and the fight picked up.....hsrd todescribe, wster cannon sucked too....tskes yiu right down off your feet,,myoubdonr know what hits you.....helps after dsys of being tesr gassed though....
We.didnt burn nothng.we were.thee to fight te cops, not burn homes...
one the best times.of my life....,
Never felt that good.or better since.....
Canadians armed.with hockey sticks sporting gas masks amidst the fog of tear gas....
Stupendous....!!!!!
Baltimore is a different beast though..

Since he is still a boy, leave that to their parents instead of cop. Kids will always be kids. NOBODY except kid's parents knows them and handle them the way they see fit.

She didn't spare the rod, meaning she don't want her boy to be spoiled. We need society quit telling parents to spare the rod, and how to be parenting.

I am parent to my two boys, and I know what it is like. I am on that mom's side not society's side.

Having teenager is BRUTAL! They got their smarts, and yes I had to deal with my son's smarts from time to time and I refuse spare the rod when see fit.

The police.wear the helmit for protection, the rioters wear masks for protection.
Often in my exoerience,.under helmit police do also wear.a mask, i think its nomex and fire resistant material, it depends.
I know swat or.etf here, wear masks to protect their id,
Why?
If the cops are so so proud, and are doing right, whu wish to wear a mask?
Becsuse.they dont want to be Identified, lest a crook or an innocent.guy whos loved pooch they just killed for nothing, or worse, decides to find them when the Are exposed.so on
Its not that hard to grasp really why cops want to wesr a helmit during s riot and why rioters want to wear a mask....
It smakes sence....of course they will...

I saw the mother on the news today and she said "At the end of the day she does not want her son being another Freddy Gray" . A few slaps across the boy head was not going to kill but a bullet in his head would had. I normally not for hitting a kid but in this case I am backing this mom up 100 %.

Did the rock hit anyone? If not, then wearing a mask might also be moot. Simply being present during a riot is not a crime.

If you really want to know, ask a lawyer.
