Mm, not sure where shall I put this thread in a right forum.

I went to the deaf club hosted halloween party at the church, the invitation card said we can dress up for it, and I dressed up fully in costume of grim reaper. I got in and saw some people in costumes but not quiet scary like me. The woman, who hosted it, got really freaked and kicked me out immediately. She kept saying that was very wrongful, totally against the church, blah blah. I didn't dress up on purpose, I was only 10 or 11 years old and I was doing this for halloween traditional thing. It was suppose to be fun and scary thing, you know. I was thinking, why did she hosted halloween even she knew it was traditional thing for people to dress up as scary or devil.
I thought she should have not done that. If it's not hosted under church then it should be ok for people to wear whatever they like to or should not mention to dress up costumes on the invitation. I'm not a churchgoer, this church I went for deaf club, also isn't my religion.
Do you think this was wrong thing for church that permitted to host an halloween party and forbids people dress up something that's against their belief?

Hmm... this is a sticky issue. If it was for kids, they should learn to understand that it was not intentional and should have also announced their rules on costumes. They should have said something like "no death or sex related costumes allowed". As for me, if I heard a church was having a costume party... I wouldn't go. I've never liked how they see things so I rather stick with going with groups that are very open-minded.

Oh, you scared them...............j/k

I'm not a churchgoer, this church I went for deaf club, also isn't my religion.
I hope you will know to do for next Holloween for wear a nun.

Yes, I believe it is wrong to have a halloween party at a church..I don't believe in Halloween but my children does..and We do take them trick and treat and let them dress anything they want to because that what a child wants to be like other children...

It's the same thing at my children's school ...they are not allow to dress up any scary costume or bring any toy weapons or mask etc....Only reasonable costume that don't scare other children....So I respect those rules and Only let them wear the scary custume when they go trick and treat at home!..

That woman should never had kicked you out.....if it was a Halloween Party and did not tell anyone what kind of costume they should be wearing.....then U did nothing wrong....

Surprised to know your church support Halloween Night!
Its not your fault e, they are brainwashing you!

Depend which kind religious is. I went to Catholic church for Halloween, I don't remember by seen any creep looking.

If They did not mention to dress up costumes.. The Host should have never kicked u out.. She is Wrong for doing that cuz she is at fault for not informing Some Guest the Proper way to dress.. cuz not everyone knows what to dress... I would have done the same thing U have done E...

And.. Halloween parties should not be at a church.. I mean for what? werid...I never heard anyone had a halloween Party at Church before.. This is all new to me...

My son's School is the same way about Dress Code for Costumes.. He is not allow to bring Weapons or Mask to school for the Party.. and They also have to bring their costumes to change at School before the Party even Started and take them off before going home... Werid.. But that how it was done.. Good thing they gave us Notice than having them calling us at home or work to pick up our Children.

Deaf and hearing Church merge in London,Ontario. They allows everyone can wear costumes but not CREEPY due christian's rules of policy.. Only Nice to wear costumes likely eg: clown, cowboy , funny costume looking.. only not allowed creepy. There have games and fun.. Cold drink and snacks. Deaf Church doesn't believe halloween trick n' treat on door to door. My kids went there and said TOOOOOOOOOOOOO BORING from couple years ago.. I respect my kids wishes.. Last year, Kids went out the door to door for trick n treat..

They used to giving out to children lot of snacks and cold drinks and books plus chick brouchre (christian) too.
I loved to reading chick brouchre book's christian.. easy to read for everyones understand what God's words... :)

Same Here.. That is why I never heard of a Halloween Party at a Church cuz Church around where I live does not provide Halloween Parties. :P

since when is the idea of death a sacrelige? it's as natural as life. anyway, most of the grim reaper costumes that I've seen are pretty harmless

Not in my church where I used to go to....They only host Christmas Party , and Celebrating Easter too that it...

I think that the host was wrong should have pre warned people not to wear certain things, that might be offensive so therefore ur in the right and thier in the wrong! next time u hear a Deaf hosted church party for halloween my advice--- Don't go, cuz they will just plain look u down, most church goers are closed minded, i know some deafies arent' and respect our own choice of life, but for this issue, don't allow them to ridcule u for something u didn't do wrong! :)

There is nothing wrong having Halloween party at the church! Having Halloween parties at the churches or schools are a lot better and safer than having children going out tricking and treating. I enjoy seeing those cute children dressed up simple like animals, etc. :)

I have a church around here local provide halloween parties.

Angel, speaking about church. Some states are starting problem with the criminal people that gave posion candies to the childern. So far as today the colleges, universities, communities and churches provide the halloween parties. All the rules are same rest of other as church does but I do not know why all are similar same. Due the childern easy scare the creepy looks such as reaper and scream at the child. The child can turn nightmare. I have done that child at public school that provide for halloween parties. I was headless and I have head in my lunchbox. There are mask and glow behind the mask. The boy asked me, "Where is your head?" I was like okay.. here (open lunch box). He scream to death. I was speechless and didn't how scare the children. He has nightmare for 3 to 4 years because he is only 5 years old. I was upset and not doing that as creepy. I used to love be creepy but realize that I can scare the childern and some adult (rare that happen).

Another than that.. The Halloween was used to be Holy Eve and as today they changed "Halloween".

They tell us on the News about Safely for Halloween trick and Treat.. We are to check the Candies Bars make sure there is no hole or rips.. and Do not accept food that they make at home.. Which like Cookies,,, Popcorn.. etc... We are very careful how to do that.. I am not going to take Trick and Treat away from Children cuz there are some Bad people out there that would do something Bad to the Candies.. If u follow Safely Produce then U will be fine..Also Not to let the Children walk alone without an Adults during Trick and Treat cuz of Kidnapping...
