My husband has been wearing HA for 50 years. He needs new aids and has tried every digital that the audiologist can get and is determined to get anolog aids. She says you can't get them anymore. We live in Indiana and don't know where else to go. Please help.

I know NOTHING about this site, just googled "analog hearing aids" and this came up.

Analog Hearing Aids

Looks to me like they are still made. You might try contacting the customer service number for Phonak and Unitron and see if these aids are still legitimately available.

yeah, you can still get analog. I would still keep wearing them forever if it wasn't for the feedback problem.

You can indeed get analog hearing aids and any audi that is telling you that is wanting the money from the digitals. Analogs are cheaper and they are also the only hearing aids some insurances will cover. I am awaiting my appt to pick mine up next week they are made by Starkey and I know Phonak makes an analog also. Starkey is sold in numerous places. Don't let her give you that! What part of Indiana? I am from ohio and I am getting mine in Cincy.

otherwise better contact to audiology do you have live tried contact or something help solve troubleshooting

lemme tell you something about analogs, I thought they were wonderful since you can program it by hand, not just sofware LOL! I also wore them for a long time as a kid and trust me, my analogs still worked as I tried them on

Is the implication there is that you're more likely to get feedback with an analog than a digital? Cause I have a digital and still occasionally get a feedback especially if the mold is old or the tube needs to be replaced.

It's not an implication, it's a fact. Until 3 years ago, I wore analog hearing aids for about 33 years. Feedback was always a problem because I wore the most powerful analog hearing aids due to my profound hearing loss. People complained every day about the feedback unless I turned down the volume very low. The new digital hearing aid I have has zero feedback. haven't heard one single complaint since getting the digital.

But! Downside to my digital is lower volume - I don't like that. My audiologist told me there's a new digital aid on the market that can provide more volume and I can get it for free after I get my audiogram done. Just waiting for my appointment.

It is likely the lower volume, though, that is giving you zero feedback on the new digital, Caroline.

I have one analog and one digital. You are right in that it seems the analogs provide much more feedback than the digital ones do, but I don't know if it's fact ... Volume and earmolds and tubing probably have much to do with it. I've been deaf for 40 years myself and boy, is feedback a source of frustration too! :(

You're probably right. I will have to wait and see if I will have feedback problems with the new stronger digital aid.

my new digital hearing aid has none of those problems this time though LOL :)
@alleycat, I tried the one analog, one digital part and who knows? they always work for me but only if the earmold is pushed back tight enough not to release the feedback or else the feedback sound may annoy my parents and sister.

One thing I've done is changed audis. I've changed them several times over the past several years because I was so frustrated with the feedback issue, and having constantly sore ears from poorly made earmolds (they made my ears bleed!). And none of them seemed to take me seriously. I found a new audi, based off a referral from a friend, and boy, do I ever love her. My first visit with her, she made me new molds and they are a dream. It's now time to replace them, but that's only because of age. So that really seems to make a difference with feedback. At least for me.

that's great Alleycat!
wonder what color earmold you're getting :) be cafeful not to get full colored ones or else there's an allergic reaction coming in! *I have that problem and now I'm known as the one with a specfic earmold allergy*

I always thought that, usually, feedback was attributed to either an improperly fitted earmold or an earmold that no longer fits as snugly after the passage of time.....

That too. In my case it was just because my analogs are so strong that feedback happens even with snugly fitting molds.

Yeah, I guess.....especially with "exaggerated" jaw motions like chewing or straining the neck, etc, huh? I get that, too....

I'm curious. Why do some people prefer analog? I've always had digital so I don't have anything to compare it with.

Not sure if my own rationale is gonna make sense.....with an analog, I like everything thrown at me and let me figure things out.....

Yea, the digital aid is supposed to process the sound. I can't really imagine what it's like to have everything thrown at me, though.

I remember my grandpa having the box and the cord on the ear piece. Talk about feedback! lol
