Yes, I know the fuel is in the wings. The current studies show the safest seats are in the rear with a fatality rate of 32% , middle 39% and front 38%. Those sitting in the middle seats in the rear had the lowest fatality rate of 28% and those in the isle in the middle thirst of the aircraft had the highest at 44% However, those sitting in the middle of the plane(isle) no matter of location made up the highest number of fatalities in any air crash and those sitting near emergency exits have the highest survival rate. Because of the varying nature of aircraft accidents the FAA as well as other airline safety experts say there is no safest seat on an aircraft. I was basing my first reply on a study that I read in the early 80's that showed the safest seats were over the wings, the studies since the late 80's have showed it not to be as "safe." All in all you have a 1 in 8,000 chance of ever being in an air crash in your lifetime.
