Right. It doesn't. Because ASL is conceptual and it is obvious that people have numerous concepts of altruism.

That's why we borrow words from other languages.

However cultures do impact why certain words exist and not others.

Absolutely. For instance, in the Inuit language there are many different words for the English word covering the concept of "snow", resulting from culture. So any signed Inuit language, due to culture, would contain many signs for the concept of snow, where ASL has one.

Right. It doesn't. Because ASL is conceptual and it is obvious that people have numerous concepts of altruism.

Jillio's answer makes a lot of sense to me, especially given the dust up in getting here.
 
I'm a christian who believe no good deeds get you in heaven. We do things to please God, for what? for ourselves. But at least we are being selfish for the right reasons. I agree with Jillo.
