My hearing loss really hit me in a month's time, where I can really tell the difference? I have substantial loss now in my remaining ear. It happens so quickly? What saddens me a lot, is for the first time, I could not have a conversation with my daughter sitting at the table across for me. Up to now I've been still hearing my husband poorly. In the last few days I can barely make him out at all? I can't understand what he is saying? Been having to text him today. The doctor says genetic and immune related, but I don't have any great symptoms when these attacks are happening and hearing loss following?. I get the mildest most subtle pain in my ear canal very briefly and then can't hear after that? My hearing doesn't come back after that.. I couldn't hear my grandchildren at Christmas. That really hurt. God, how am I going to cope with this permanently?

I was in the same boat, couldn't hear my son... Broke my heart when he got frustrated trying to tell me something or I missing out on him singing songs he would make up. I finally had cochlear surgery and wish Id done it sooner ! 5 years of awesome hearing and counting.
 
I am so happy for your wonderful success story it brings tears to my eyes; I was sent to the Specialist by my Audiologist a few months back. 2nd time around, I already had lost the hearing in my right ear and had little hearing left in my left. She said to wear my hearing Aids till ALL my hearing went and then come back to see her and said "we'll talk Cochlear Implants" but I am concerned, I live in a Province that only does so many a year and there use to be a waiting list. I'm also concerned that there is nothing else causing my hearing loss? but it really sounds like a wonderful dream to have my hearing back and hear my grandchildren and my husband and children clearly again.

If you have insurance ( Private or Medicare/Medicaid/VA ) you can use just about anyone in your network, you can chose whom you are comfortable with as an Audi and Surgeon. I know of lots of people who actually had theirs done in different states as well. Some have seen a few different specialists before deciding. I myself have left my original Audi to stay with one I liked who sits and listens to you and whats best for you. The one I left kept saying " This is what I think is best", " Im going to do this instead" and it was never correct.... she is not the one who lives with it. You
 
Thank you, but in Canada, it may be a little different as Cochlear implants aren't done as readily as in the States? Just up to a few years ago, Implants were only done for children, recently they changed it and included adults. and are doing more of them, but still I think they are limited to a certain amount per year that the Province pays for?.

Hi. I am also losing my hearing, but mine will be permanent. I am terrified. But I've been trying to learn ASL, and get prepared., Before it's too late. I know it's scary. How will the world feel if I can't hear it anymore? How will people treat me now? I am alone and don't have friends, but how will I make them now? But I always come back to, I'm alive. I get to be in the world still. So let me make the best of it. I'm here if you need a friend, or to just talk.
 
I know how you feel, I am so sorry to hear. Did they tell you your hearing loss is permanent? Did they talk about Cochlear implants at any point? The first time my ENT also said my hearing loss is progressive and there is nothing she can do and that nothing will help? Well, I was referred back to her by my Audiologist, and now she brings up that we'll talk cochlear implants. She said to come back to her once I'm totally deaf, I don't know if she just said that to pacify me, or if she is serious? Well, I don't know how bad you have to be in her book, but I am at the end of the rope with my hearing loss.
I've noticed that when no one is around, I don't bother wearing my hearing Aids, I don't know if this is a sign of me adapting, there isn't much difference but I can still tell when they are in, there still is a wee bit of sound. Some say you get use to the hearing loss, I haven't found my way there, not entirely. I want to hear again. I really wish you well. Don't give up, they are doing research into finding a way to replace (regrow) the cilia, the little hairs that move along sound. The future in this area sounds promising.
