The cruise lines do not have a "group discount." They charge the
regular
price, and then, assuming you have booked at least 8 cabins (at double
occupancy that's 16 people), then they would issue a tour conductor
credit
after sailing. That means they rebate the cruise portion for one
passage for
each 16 individuals booked. The group leader generally gets this rebate
and
can either keep it (making it a free cruise, although they still pay
port
charges and taxes) or share it with the others. On the $419 cruise, the
cruise portion is $320 for the group leader to keep or split 16 ways,
it is
a savings of $20 per person. Not really a lot of money. The savings
comes in
on higher priced cruises, and also, when we put together a group, we
generally ask the cruise line for extra amenities. These will vary with
each
sailing but could be a cocktail party or maybe a $25 per person
shipboard
credit, or a bottle of wine in the cabin.
One of the problems I frequently encounter when I book a group is that
the
advertised least expensive price may only be available for individual
bookings and not for groups, so we end of booking a higher category.
Unless
there are special amenities being offered, or the group really needs
something special, we may very well end up getting better pricing by
just
booking the individuals on the cruise and then linking all the bookings
so
that everyone is dining together.
I hope you find this information to be helpful. I will work with you
any way
I can.
