AIDS Cure ?

Suddenly, everyone is gonna want a bone marrow transplant.

I wouldn't want one if I don't need one. Bone marrow transplants are VERY VERY VERY risky. You COULD DIE. My ex-roommate, she was born without an immune system (SCID) and she had to have 7 bone marrow transplants before it finally worked. It was very RISKY and she got EXTREMELY SICK from the transplants and the drugs that was given during the transplants. She had to have 7 transplants before one worked for her. As a result of the drugs given during the transplants, she had end stage renal disease, high blood pressure, and a host of other health problems. She is alive, and a few years ago she had a kidney transplant and has been doing very well since. She is 30 years old. She had the same disease (SCID) as David Vetter but luckily the 7th bone marrow transplant worked for her, and she got well. She is a very lucky person. She doesn't have to live in a bubble or anything.

There won't be an aids cure until they stop torturing animals in laboritories.

How do you suggest they find a cure or come up with better medication?

Do you know any people with HIV/AIDS that have to endure the side effects of their medications?

Sorry I disagree with you--we do need animals in laboritories for testing against diseases.

They're still having unprotected sex.

Bingo! And engaging in all of the other high risk behaviors that contribute to the spread of the virus. Scare tactics don't work. What does work is programs like Seattle's clean needle program. It is, BTW, one of the most successful in the country. Over the last few years, they have managed to reduce the number of newly diagnosed AIDS cases in King Co. by 12% overall.

Hell, dreama! The AIDS virus first appeared in monkeys. Damned animals are the ones responsible for it!:cool2:

Baboons are immune to it. I heard it is very hard to infect the chimpanzees and there are some who are infected. According to "Next of Kin", the AIDS testings on chimpanzees are stopping.

Some Africans do eat monkeys. Perhaps they got it from them that way, especially if they have cuts on their mouths. Why damned the animals? If everybody is vegetarian, maybe - just maybe there would be less diseases in this world. Another score for us, vegetarians!!! :)

That's not unusual. They KNEW that Delta32 seems to confer protection from HIV infection but they are also puzzled with some people who lacked Delta32 and seem to have immunity to HIV despite repeated exposure to HIV.

What they were NOT prepared was that it was probably likely that if you get blood from someone who has the Delta32 mutation, you could cure HIV. They reported a patient several years ago in a person with the transplant but dismissed it as a "fluke" but a second case seems to show that it's more than a "fluke."

There's a drawback with having Delta32 mutation, it makes you more likely to get infected with West Niles virus and other certain viruses.

Drug companies are trying to make drugs that can make the genes mutate to have a copy of Delta 32 but it's kinda scary though - having drugs that can directly manipulate your genes. It did work for some kinds of cancer tho.

Do you have a link for that? I would love to read more on this.
