I was so amazed!!! I taught a 88 years old woman yesterday how to forward E mails from her iphone 5. She was struggling and then finally got it. We were both laughing. It was so great to finally figure how to forward E mails.

This woman taught me something. You see, I don't like typing on screen. I like having a phone with keyboard. She made it look simple. She uses the eraser back end of pen to type messages instead of her fingers. I think I should try doing that. You see, my contract is up in January. By then, I'll want a new phone. I may get a phone with NO keyboard. I would probably try typing with eraser end of pen and see how I like it.

I felt good and so did the other person. It was a great day yesterday.

:wave:I really liked that post, Derek, it was nice to read and made me smile:ty:

I prefer the phones with keyboards myself. I stuck with my Galaxy S forever and a day because of the keyboard. When T-Mobile told me they are pretty much not making phones with them anymore, I figured it was time for an upgrade.... sad, but oh well. I can't text NEARLY as fast as I could with a keyboard. :(

I used to reeeally dislike the iPhone (while I had blackberry) because of the lack of keyboard. Now it's worth it and I wouldn't change! Search for a "stylus" - I think that's what you're referring to about the "eraser"... I use one through meetings so I don't block my screen so much. Typing on a screen takes getting used to but you start to make it work!

Derek -

That was really nice of you to take the time to help that lady with her email. I bet you saved her a lot of frustration and gave her something that will make her life more convenient! Nice job.

Be warned that the newest 'smart' phones won't work with an eraser or blunt object because the touch screen technology is different (new screens are 'capacitive' whereas older ones are 'resistive'). I could explain the details in technical terms if you like, but suffice it to say that the newest devices require a human finger or a special 'capacitive' stylus to make them work. My guess is that this lady had something like a 'flip-phone' that uses the older kind of touch screen.

I hate typing on the screen, too!

Always feels fulfilling to help others!
Anyway, I also love the keyboard for typing. Love everything superfast though, so the touchscreen is great for navigation, obviously.

Kudos to both of you!....I'm not quite that old yet...:giggle:...but with so much head trauma, my memory does slip...I write things down...and forget where I put 'em too!....My sister is 74 and a memory sharp as a tact...

And as much as people do realize that spending time with an elderly person is golden....they appreciate it so much!...My son comes over, cleans out my computer and also writes things down so I won't forget....

My voice teacher is 82 and she knows how to use an iPhone/Computer. This lady is so talented and it amazes me! I remember I did some volunteering at a local residential place and I taught an elderly lady how to use Skype, and send e-mail and something else but I don't remember. She was so happy to learn those things!

I know a lot of people here and in person have been telling me that it's great to type on screen. I may have to cross the bridge. I just hope I don't have to. I'm due for new phone in January. I may try one that has no keyboard. I dread thinking about it, but at the same time I'm excited about getting a new phone.

I know that I will be able to get a lot of help here and in person when I get new phone. That is what I'm looking forward to the most about getting a new phone.

I can't type as fast on a touchscreen keyboard as I can a proper keyboard (part of the reason I don't like tablets - I type a lot, and if I have to buy a keyboard for it why not just buy a laptop, except I already own a laptop!) but I find turning the phone sideways so the keys are a bit wider can help.

I have the touch screen now. It is hard for me to want to use it. I have seen a pattern now. I start and make lots of mistakes at first and start to get frustrated but after that the struggling stops and I am writing away. If it was up to me there would be bigger touch keys. I don't like it but I don't like being behind the rest of the world either.
