'Trembled' actor dies
Actor Jonathan Brandis, 27, who starred in the movie "The Year That Trembled," which was filmed in Ohio, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment Wednesday. Brandis, 27, was found by friends and pronounced dead at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office. There were no signs of violence. An autopsy was due to be performed yesterday, an investigator said. "The Year That Trembled," produced by Tyler Davidson and Scott Lax, who were living in the Cleveland area at the time, was filmed in Ohio and premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival in 2002. Brandis played Casey Pedersen, a young man who is caught up in the turmoil of the Vietnam War. "It's a terrific tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family," said Davidson, who now lives in Los Angeles.

That is very sad to see him die young, he is best remembered in the movie Ladybugs and the NeverEnding Story 2 and his role in the TV show Seaquest, he will be missed!

Umm... that's a messageboard article. Should that be believable?

According to the rumors, he died on November 12, 2003. That was last week on Thursday. So far, it hasn't made the news, magazines, or newspapers. Isn't that odd?

Yeah, it is odd but I'm assuming that the family wants to keep it private until they decide to release I guess...

Well, one week is an awfully long time to keep it under wraps! I'll believe it when they actually publicize it in the news and newspapers. :deal:

im in shock, shouldn't this have been announced on the news or in AOL for that matter ( the news part don' t go there on asshole online comment) or any well known news..... what abt entertainment news?? this is odd considering and i for one agree with vampy thats a *catch up news* on that newspaper...

Damn!! he is my one of favorite actors.. :(
bless his family/friends.. *sniffs*

I am quite surprised to see this going around without having any really reliable sources to begin with.

I do have my doubts like some of people here are having. Somehow, if this is for real. It is bound to show up at CNN or some other reliable sources the next few days.

But for now, I'll hold this in doubt.

Hmm... I still find it odd that nothing has been announced to the public. If he did die... then may he rest in peace.

Hmm... well, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

i looked on imdb.com and it lists his date of death Nov 12th. they are supposed to be pretty reliable.

Okay, I think it's safe to say that it's official since Chicago Sun-Times had the story and the story happened to be from AP.

Jonathan Brandis' Apparent Suicide

by Sarah Hall
Nov 21, 2003, 12:50 AM PT

Actor Jonathan Brandis, who began his television and film career as a child, died November 12, the victim of an apparent suicide. He was 27.

Brandis was best known for his portrayal of crewmember Lucas Wolenczek on two seasons of Steven Spielberg's underwater sci-fi series, SeaQuest DSV, for which he won a 1993 Young Artists Award, catapulting him to teen idol status.

The actor got his start at age six, when he landed a recurring role on the soap One Life to Live and appeared in numerous commercials. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at age nine, and made guest appearances on shows such as Murder She Wrote and Who's the Boss?

Brandis earned his first starring film role in 1990's The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter. He went on to appear in 1992's Ladybugs with Rodney Dangerfield and more recently in the Farrelly Brother's Outside Providence in 1999.

Police said a friend of Brandis' called 911 from his apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report that the actor had attempted suicide by hanging. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital but he died the next day.

Paul Peterson, president of A Minor Consideration, an organization that deals with issues affecting child actors, released a statement expressing his sorrow over Brandis' death.

"We are left with a sense of helplessness and perhaps even anger that this thoroughly unexpected death occurred when we have spent years developing resources to deal with any and all crisis situations," Peterson's statement read. "This one hurts. What more can we say?"

The Los Angeles coroner's office performed an autopsy, but won't announce the cause of death until Brandis' blood and toxicology results are returned, which could take up to six weeks. However, according to Peterson, initial reports showed no sign of drugs in Brandis' system.

"Speculations as to the underlying cause of this tragedy are exactly that: speculations. It serves no purpose to leap to conclusions for none of us will really know what led Jonathan to his decision to take his life," Peterson stated.

Brandis reportedly left no suicide note. He was an only child, who is survived by his parents, Greg and Mary Brandis.
