I have XP on my mini laptop. One day, out of the blue the activation window poped up and now I can't get into the desktop. Help! :hmm:

Did you install it yourself or did it come with the laptop?

Do you have the activation code that came with the laptop or the software?

I had a tech guy install XP. I had 7 starter as factory new. I downgraded the OS.

I suggest you contact Microsoft and get it activated - this is only legal way to do.

Can I ask you why you downgraded to XP from Windows 7?

I like XP better.

Did you know that Windows XP 32bit up to 4GB of RAM? Also Windows 7 is quick than Windows XP for multitask.

Windows XP do not have driver for SOME newer hardware due Windows XP is outdated anything.

He has mini laptop or netbook.

Windows XP limited to 3 GB, not 4 GB.

Yeah, but 32-bit OS only limited to 3.5GB memory. 64-bit OS can go more than 3.5GB memory. If you have Windows 7 with 32-bit, it's still limited to 3.5GB.

Anyway, OP is using netbook (I believe) and I think it limited to 32-bit OS (remember, I said I think ;)) and it's not needed to go more than 3.5GB.

...simple, just by listening to my problem and telling me your angle.
