I wonder if I could take a bath after I am healed with the CI.. can I shower and go swimming also? But the prosscer is off.. right?

Yep, you are correct. There is no problem to get into water of any sort if your processor is removed. The only limitation with water I know of is scuba diving in terms of depth. It is no more than 80 feet or so.

OFC! You can swim, shower etc. I've heard about scuba diving is limit with 100 feet I think. I can't remember but you can ask audiogoist to double check on that.

After surgery, let it rest couple of days before take shower. Bath won't hurt but don't let your hair wet till it heal a bit. :) I remembered my friend had CI surgery and really wanted her hair washed but she called dr and double check. He said ok after few days. Every doctors are different. :)

Time getting closer by eh??

Oh yeah, you can jump off a diving board and dive into the water just fine.

My kids loves going swimming and my son kept begging me to go swimming after his CI surgery but he had to wait a week before then. In fact, the chlorine in the water helped clean dried blood and everything off his incision so it looked squeaky clean afterwards.

The only drawback from associating CI with water, like SrSoars said, is pressure levels when you scuba dive in deep waters. To me, the only things under water worth seeing are the coral reefs and they aren't that deep so you're good to go!

Good luck with your surgery, again!!!

OHHH 6 more days?? YAY! I am sure you'll do just fine with the surgery. :)

My friend told me a funny story...wanna to hear it?

Sounds like you are having second thought.. I wonder if you get CI to please your husband??? i know he is hearing.. You should get it to please yourself not for anyone else...

You are correct about this limit for CI users. The limit for most recreational divers is 30 metres (about 100 feet) anyway.

Myth: Implant users cannot swim, shower, or participate in sports.

Fact: When NOT wearing the external equipment, users can swim, shower, and participate in any number of water activities. The only restriction placed on implant users relates to skydiving and scuba diving as the significant air-pressure changes encountered in these activities is not advisable. Participation in all other athletic pursuits is unrestricted though protective head gear is always wise.

...extracted from the UCSF Cochlear Implant Center

From what I know, CI users aren't supposed to go into outer space either. I believe this is due to huge changes in pressure that can cause the metal of the internal CI to expand/contract. Someone please correct this if I'm wrong.

Riding in airplanes is fine. I have a CI and have done that several times.

BCIG Safety Guidelines has some extra information.

NO I am not having 2nd thoughts and I am doing it for myself not for my husband nor anyone!

After she had CI surgery. She felt that someone punched her! ROFL! Anyway her hubby and she decided to go out eat because she wasn't feel up to cooking. Her eye was black (not sure why she got it from the surgery.) I'll ask her again when she gets home Friday from the hospital (she had surgery today for personal reason). The waiter asked her what happened to your eye? Did someone punched you? She burst into laughing SO hard! She said NO...I had CI surgery. Her hubby explained a little more since she was in a bit pain. That's why! I laughed so hard! I can't remember what else she told me. Ummmm

She loves it every minutes!!! And she said it is really worth it for her!

SO everyone is different from CI surgery.

As far as the black eye, it was probably just from the swelling. Lillys head and face as a little swollen. No black eyes just swelling. I have a picture of her the day after the surgery showing the amount of swelling if anyone is interested. The only problem is figuring out how to post it for all to see. If anyone knows, please tell me.

Upload it to a photo hosting website such as Photobucket.com and then copy and paste the IMG link into the post. I really do recommend photobucket because it has very decent bandwidth. I have tons and tons of pictures on there and I have only used up very little of the bandwidth so far.

And yes, I'm interested! :)

Ohh I used to go to Chinese Resturant with my dad all the time.. he said he will take me out after the surgery. A few days after the surgery that is. I havent eaten there for LONGGGGGGGGGGGG time now! :giggle:

YES!! Anyway, that photo was taken the day after surgery. She was a littlt upset when I took that. Her face was a little swollen along with her eyes, but not nearly as bad as we thought she was going to be.

To compare the swelling, this is her three weeks later when going through the activation.

T595net - Photo Albums - General Photos - Lilly has arrived!

Just so you know, the pictures came from another message board that deals with british motorcycles.

Not that I'm overlay proud of her or anything, but if you click ont "back to thumbnail" on the bottom right of the screen, you can see more pics of her. Then you can scroll down and click on pages 1-5 numbers to go through different pages of pictures of her. The pics go from when she was litterally 30 seconds old until the present. Nooooo, I'm not a proud daddy?! :p
