Good Morning everyone!
Thanks goodness someone still there to help you guys. I am glad you got home safely .Yesterday, TCS and I went to the outdoor shooting range to practice using our shotguns. (We have a clay shoot coming up soon.) This range is way out in the Francis Marion National Forest where there's no cell phone service for many miles.
We had a good time shooting. We packed up the Jeep and were ready to head home. (There are no facilities at this range, so I also needed a potty break.)
TCS put the key in the ignition and nothing started. After checking a few things he determined that the battery was dead.
This could be bad. There is no way to call for help where we were. Not for at least a 15-mile walk thru the woods.
Happily, there were still a few other people at the range and one of the guys gave our Jeep a jump. It worked! Whew!
We made it home, late, but safe. TCS went and got a new battery.

You're confusing the two ranges. That is scary! It seems like as big a facility as it is based on my memory of your prior description there should be some kind of emergency contact available.
You're confusing the two ranges.
One range is indoors, in town, full facilities (including heated toilet seats in the ladies' restroom ). We use that one mostly for our handgun practice.
The other range is outdoors, in the national forest, no building or facilities. We use that one mostly for shooting our long guns.
It was the outdoor range we were at yesterday.
So, there should be landline phones every mile along trails through mountains. I mean, they do expect people to use these trails. Ever hear of roughing it? Reba & TCS chose to go to a range out in the wilderness knowing it did not have creature comforts including phones or cell service. It just seems like they should provide some method of emergency contact even if not as developed. They do expect people to go there to use it.

You are comparing apples and oranges. This is a place where people are expected to go by vehicle. Why not provide some provision for getting help?
