((cringes)) Wish I knew how to turn down a bet...

Everything is calmer here. The dog and cat are relaxing now whew! I can watch SNF in peace:giggle:

...I'm so poor that I had potato chips for lunch :aw:

I like Barbeque chips. I have had this for lunch. Not that bad. And a good source of potassium.
But are chips in Australia like chips in America? Or are they what we call french fries here?

I like the sour cream and chive chips. I'm also partial to just plain chips with hot sauce.

Not a bad lunch, really.

What kind? I like salt and vinegar.

Botts, I don't know how to say but potato crisps? Is it the correct context?

Potato crisps are chips here. Also I think Pringles might be crisps everywhere. They are prepacked and not cooked fresh.

So I guess you had a bad of chips or crisps. Your USA trip will be worth it.

Son just heard on the local news - it will be around 80 degress and possible rain for Christmas Day here in WPB, FL.

Botte, You know Arthur Treather s Fish & 'Chips'. Why is British called chips for fried fries?

This was the best I could come up with for an answer.

Actually, there is a distinct difference between ''French Fries'' and ''Chips''.
Chips are actually much larger than French Fries, normally, that is. I would know, I live here, even though I am not, technically British.
And ''Fish & Chips'' is such an old meal that it's, in a way, a tradition.
It has existed in Britain for a long time, (since the 1800's) and it's very nice actually. Even better than McDonald's, and more filling.
The English were fascinated by ''French Fries'', and they decided to bring it along to Britain, where they re-named it to ''Chips'', and made them larger. And then, for some reason I don't know, people started eating them with fish. And so, ''Fish & Chips'' came to be.
It's even not that unhealthy when eaten every once in a while.
Hope this helped.

ANd I probably don't deserve a prize since it isn't a great answer. Maybe someone else knows more.

Why do Brits call French fries "chips" and serve them with fish? I can't see those 2 going together? - Yahoo! Answers
