Today I had the honor to ride to and stand in a flag line for another veteran who died. I rode to Murrels Inlet, it is just south of Myrtle Beach.

The ride there was about 78 miles. I stopped at a Hardees for lunch at about 60 miles. Three other PGR riders saw the flags on my bike and stopped in. We finished lunch and the four of us rode the rest of the way together.

Arriving at the funeral home, we saw about 35 others from the surrounding areas. It was cold, but NO SNOW!

The widow came out, walked the flag lines with her hand over her heart the whole time and thanked each of us for being there. Her husband was a Marine Corps veteran, American Legion member, and biker.

We weren't there long, but it was worth it. The pictures were after because we arrived at the last minute and I did not have time to take before pictures.

Jiro: What is your inseam measurement? When you sat on the Super Tenere, were you able to flatfoot both feet?

That bike is probably #1 on my list of must-have-one-of-these-now bikes.

30" and no I can't flatfoot it. It was between tip-toe and half-flatfoot. I'll have to lower Tenere by 2". According to its specification - its height is 33". When you sit on it, it gets lowered by an inch or 2 depending on your weight.

But the reason why I was able to touch ground with both of my feet is because the bike's fully-loaded with side bags. That brings the bike down by probably another 1-2". So my weight + side bags brought it down to around 30-31".

My motorcycle's height is 31.3". I reduced it by 2" and I still can't flatfoot it but my footing position is very comfortable. When my bike's fully-loaded, I can easily flatfloot it but that would mean peg-grinding

I couldn't believe I finally sat on Tenere!!!!

Jiro, how tall are you? I'm 5'9", inseam 29". That is another reason I chose the Hyosung. Initially made in South Korea for Koreans. Flat-footing it is no problem. My old 750-4 Hondas had me on my tiptoes. They were made for the American market. I was 5'10" then. :D

5'6". I made a mistake in my previous post. My inseam is more of 29". I said 30" because I wear "32x30" pants.

how did you lose 1"?

Osteoporosis. Rarer for men. Taking Fosomax which re-strengthened my bone density. :hyper:

I am about 5'10" and wear 32 inseam pants. I was able to flatfoot my V-Strom, and it is roughly the same height as the Tenere.

My only issue with the Tenere is the massive 1200cc engine, do we reeeallllyyyy need that much? I think 800 would be ideal, like the upcoming Triumph Tiger Adventure.

I like the idea of having a shaft drive and backroad capability. Not sure if I am keen on the throttle-by-wire system...more electronics to break if you are in the middle of Death Valley and drop it.

Fired up the bike this afternoon.....it reached 70 degrees......yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. ;)

Throttle-By-Wire system is the least thing to worry about if you drop it in middle of Death Valley. Your handles (clutch or brake), pedals, pegs, handlebar, etc can be easily broken and dented.

It's more of hardware than electronic that will be easily damaged if you drop the bike.

oh and about 1200cc... YES DEFINITELY! we DO really need that much!

look at that road... with 1200cc.. you'll be cruising down the road like a Cadillac effortlessly. With 650, it really really wears you down because of high rev and you having to hold the throttle down. With 800... it's ok... but it does make you wish you're riding 1200cc.

For mostly local/city riding, 650-800 is good enough.

Is the 2012 Super Tenere a new model or an upgrade? What was the asking price at the expo? I am not familiar with this line.

It looks like a very compact, comfortable bike. For a 1200cc, it sure looks tucked in well.

It's a new model - "Adventure Touring" that is directly created to compete with BMW R1200GS model which has reigned the market for many years.

Its MSRP is $13,900 and BMW R1200GS is $17,000.

It's definitely not a very compact bike. It's quite heavy and meaty especially for off-road but "Adventure Touring" class aka "Dakar Bike" can handles all terrains. It's basically "anywhere, anytime."

Notice the similarity between Tenere and R1200GS

I'v seen a few GS's around. For the price, do you think it is worth it or would you have to purchase many extras to complete it? Meaning it would bring up the price near the GS.

I knew somebody would ask a question like that

I'm still in middle of post. Almost done. :cool2:
