In other words, they are EXPECTING the cooling phase to last til 2010. And their prediction is pretty on target. Nothing unusual or unexpected.

But they certainly did not expect record breaking snow in so many states.

Secondly, there is no reversing of a drought condition, especially severe ones that lasted over a period of several years or so, for it recover in a year or two. It would require several years or more of above normal precipitation to help recharge the groundwater system or aquifers which help maintain rivers, streams, and lakes at normal flows or capacity level. It's the groundwater that gets depleted and takes the longest to recover.

Funny, that is generally true but you surely realize that it does take time to fully assess the whole situation yet you already jumped to a conclusion that since this year is relatively the coldest, the global warming must be reversed too?

In my location, snow generally falls when it is warmer. January is usually less snow, because it becomes too cold for large snowfalls. The big snow we were supposed to get here this weekend ended up being a snow/sleet/rain event, because the temps actually rose above freezing.

It's the fact that weather changes on her own accord and that we continue to have hot and cold weather w/o man's help. We had our record cold in September and December is already looking to be another record cold month for the United States according to NOAA. If you want to look at temp trend then understand that according to physicist Luboš Motl found that there were no statistically significant warming since 1995. Yet people continue to insist that several tenths of a degree change since 1900s to present is significant when it's not compared to the historical and geologic past.

Please note the difference between a record cool month and record cool year. October was the third coolest/coldest October on record. No where did I conclude anything about a record cool/cold year. Again, where did I say or jumped to conclusion that this year will be the the coldest?

Here's the problem with trying to forecast the weather 3 months out. It's undpredictable.

Compare NOAA's forecast on temperature departure for Oct - Dec 2009 with lightere to darker brown on increasing temperature departure.

Now, if these climate models that forecasters use are unable to predict reliable forecast over the the next three months, then tell me what logic is there to blindly adhere to a faith trusting a forecast 100 years out for weather or even for climate? It'd be utter, utter folly.

ADDENDUM: Reason for editing. I added picture descriptions because Jiro pointed it out yet he continues not to follow through his own advice. I make a point to try and include descriptions for embedded pictures when asked or reminded. I'm only human. Although it is not my thing to intentionally and purposely ignore describing pictures that I embedded in AD just to score points at the cost of leaving out readers with vision problems. I refuse to use them as pawns. Jiro should be ashamed of this method of his to purposely discriminate and ignore such a request.
