60kg toddler eats more than parents - The West Australian

He's only three years old, but already Lu Hao weighs 60kg and is five times the size of an average three-year-old.

Hao's father, Lu Yuncheng, said an average meal for the Chinese toddler included three bowls of rice.

"His appetite is so good that for a meal he can eat three big bowls of rice, even larger than I and his mother," Mr Lu said.

Hao weighed 2.6kg when he was born but started gaining weight rapidly from the age of three months, The Daily Mail has reported.

His parents have kept a close eye on his diet, but his mother, Chen Yuan, said that if they did not feed him he would cry non-stop.

Hao is so heavy that his mother is no longer able to lift him.

"No matter how hard the family restricts Hao's diet and pushes him to move more the toddler has still managed to put on 10kg in the past year," The Mail said.

"Hao hates walking and each day his mother takes him to kindergarten on a motorcycle."

Mr Lu said there "was no such giant person" on either side of the family.

"We took him to three hospitals and one said he has a tumour in the head, while the other two said there is no tumour in the head," he said.

"Doctors said his hormones are at a normal level. It's hard to know why he could be so big."

Mrs Chen said the family was concerned about the child's health and hoped that he would become slimmer as he aged, to avoid bullying.

"Hao has many toys at home but his favourite is Superman because, he says, 'Superman can fly and beat bad men'," The Mail said.

"When asked is he would like to fly like Superman, Hao giggles and replies: 'No, I am too fat.'

"To push Hao to do more sports, the family installed a basketball hoop in the yard and often take him to swim in a local river, but the exercise just makes him hungrier and results in him putting on more weight."

:jaw:

They need to put their feet down and tell the boy only one bowl of rice per meal, and more excercise! He may cry, wail, and throw a tantrum, but hey he's moving and burning calories, right? He will eventually learn the tantrums get nothing and he will get over it and move on as a normal child would. I feel bad for the child in this situation, where are the parents in this case?

:eek3:

What kind of life is Hao going to have if he hates walking?

because of crying non-stop....sigh. okay, let cryings destroy his life then. . . .this excuse is getting old. :thumbd:

Poor kid. I wonder if the doctors who spotted a tumor were right. It doesn't seem it would be possible for a child to get so fat without something wrong.

Oi, five times the average 3 years old? At this rate, he'll surpass the girl who weighted 400 pounds at age 7 if he keeps this up. I don't even want to think about his health problems.

If this keeps up he'll pass away sadly before the age of 18. Gross obesity can be just as devastating as starvation.

Well he looks like the size of a 5-6 year old child. 3 year old can't be that big for sure!

There's also Wilhi-Prader Syndrome as well, but they are heavily monitored. Their food intake is restricted despite their pleas for more. If left to their own devices they would eat until their stomach quite literally exploded.

Seems to be pretty obvious the little boy is sick and needs to be hospitalized to find out what is really going on.....It's very sad, really...I do know of some parents who actually installed locks on their kitchen cabinets and fridges to keep their kids from overeating...but since this kid is only 3, there is something dreadfully wrong here.

Exactly. It sounds like this child hasn't been worked up extensively enough and he should be. Poor kid!

W-O-W we got a lot of ADers who could star on "House" they know so many different illnesses!!
