After calling in a local bee expert to diagnose the cause of a loud buzzing sound, a resident of Queens, New York, was shocked to discover 40,000 bees under the bedroom floor in her home (video below).

Retired New York Police Department Detective Anthony Planakis, also known as Tony Bees, was called to the home to investigate the noise, reports NY Daily News. After using an infrared camera mounted to a pole, he found a massive group of 40,000 bees underneath the second-floor bedroom overhang.

Once the siding and plywood were removed, workers took down the giant honeycomb. The bees, led by their queen, are being relocated to a farm in upstate New York, reports CBS News.

I came home once and found about 10-12 p or hornets flying around in my condo ! They had build a nest in my A/C , I called my condo management
and the guy came over and sprayed my A/C from outside and he said about 200 hornets came flying out of my A/C . This was some years ago and I just find a new next right under my A/C a few weeks ago. :eek3:

You're a lot braver than I am, I would have just gotten back in my car and moved right then and there...

Had a nest on my patio...went and bought some Raid spray...stood way back and tried to spray the nest...missed...and that booger chased me all over the yard....I finally got 'em.

I got all the hornets out of my house and covered up my A/C from the inside . It 's builds into the wall and I was going to buy a new A/C and that would had $800 to remove the old one and install a new one. I decided not to b/c the hornet could just build a nest in my new A/C .
At least with bees you get some honey but not with hornets.

I know of a condo with an active hive in the attic. The woman is a hoarder and won't let anyone in to get the bees out. They have been there for over 10 years and the bee keeper I called to see about removing them figured there was well over 2000 pounds of honey in the attic. As to the number of bees, I wouldn't be surprised if there were over 40,000 bees in her attic too!

You think there was more than just bees in the attic by now , I bet there ants and rodents going after all the honey . :eek3:

Next time, wait till after dark when they are all sleeping and then get close. They will never know what hit them; they just fall straight down but don't miss!

Yes, you can see the rodent tunnels through her trash in the upstairs bedroom and I'm sure they are in the attic too!

I wonder who counted them? :hmm:

my guess is that they used weight of bees + hives to get a rough estimate. after vacuuming all bees into a container, they weight it when most bees have settled down in hives. :dunno:
