25 things about to become extinct in America!

Some of those losses are OK, some are sad, and some are downright scary.

Hey, Beowulf, you bummed me out for the evening. :(

The Maryland Blue crab???? I caught one at the bay beach near my home the other day but let it go. It was beautiful. Sad!

Haha, I am one of those 0.4% that get their milk from the milkman. There is a local dairy only 2 blocks from my house. I have a cooler on my porch and twice a week I get my dairy delivery. I do my orders online and they always deliver the perfect order. I get my milk, chocolate milk, eggs, bread, cheese, juice, and even wonderfully tasting hams from my dairy. It is called Winder Dairy (I think they actually call it Winder Farms now) for those who like to look it up on google. Their family grew up with my Dad, and I was friends with their children also while growing up.

The Ash tree population collapse is sad- especially if the Kentucky Ash population gets hit. They are the major resourse of the "Louisville Slugger" wood bats that over 98% of professional baseball players use. They are believed to be the most optimal in durability, density, and weight for baseball bats. I even made my own bat from Kentucky Ash when I was in 8th grade on the lathe at school.

I still bowl a league at a "Stand Alone" bowling ally, although in the last 10 years, I have definately seen a large proliferation of bowling alleys with multiple entertainment options.

That seem very weird to me at the decline of the Drive in Theatre. Here there is quite a large drive in Theatre that usually is very full on especially Friday and Saturday nights. Seems to be staying strong in my very localized area. They recently did a 5 million dollar renovation and upgrade to the theatre (about 10 years ago)

Most curiously though, is the significant decline in honey bee population as reported by this article. I have never heard a pressing issue regarding this beforehand. If it is true though it worries me because the bees play such a significant role in nearly all ecologies.

I'm not surprised by the list, but I do agree it is sad to see some of these things go. However, I am glad that measles and mumps are going away.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! The honey bees decline is scary!

Awwww, that wasn't my intention, Reba.

I agree that parts of it is downright scary, particularly the disappearance of honey bees. The experts think it is because of the proliferation of cell phones. Go figure, huh?

I know.

I worry about bee extinction.

Wow!:eek3: When you look at the way this will impact other areas of our environment, it gets pretty scary!

Ham/CB radio is still trying to stay alive. A part of this I know from experience because I have worked with a part of that industry in the past. It's mostly a hearie hobby kind of thing.

It is mostly the enthusiasts and amateurs that still keep the hobby/sport struggling. They use it often for off-roading in expedition vehicles, it's great when they can tag along with other members in the area or call for help if something goes wrong, stuff like that.

If you see expedition vehicles (Toyota 4runners, FJ cruisers, etc like those) with antennas like these, those are the guys.

Oh yeah, there is no note pass each other in classroom, they're texting each other.

"Hand-Written Letters" that is something I would miss to see :(

I still send and write cards from time to time.
Try to keep the habit alive instead of let it die and exercise writing.

I think the time I was growing up, it changed from letters to e-mail. I feel between both worlds. Anyone born 1970's, early 80's and before probably have seen it.

uh ..... no.

I just agree that handwritten letters would be a sad thing to see become extinct ;)

agreed. It's becoming the lost art :(

It's abysmal for me to see many people being unable to write legibly and spell correctly as they become too dependent on computer w/ spell-checker program. I still use post-it notes and I detest using "Reminder" program in computer/cellphone. I also still print my own calendar and write on it.

hhhmmm... one thing should be added to the list - Carbide Lamp
