I remember those days.

BTW, that $1 movie ticket was the adult price.

My first apartment, one-bedroom furnished, with screened porch and carport, on the beach in Florida, in 1972, was $100/month rent.

Yeah kids paid 25 ¢or 50 ¢ If we had a dollar we where loaded.

Looking at the average income, If I earned 20,000 per year I would say I'm rich. Is that weird?? That is poverty level today!!

Yeah, my father show me all of his old 3x5 index cards (today is called Excel?) to keep track of his expenses and his apt rent was $63 per months....

all relative,i only earned 13quids a month so that was still expensive

My daughter and granddaughter came over and we went out for ice cream , I had none , but there was an old sign up from the 50's saying cones where 10¢ I paid $4. 50 for my granddaughter cone which was a small one. The cone was a lot smaller and the ice cream was not packed into the cone like it was when I a kid.

In the 60's and early 70's Baskin Robbins ice cream cost 10 cents for a single, 15 for a double and 20 cents for a triple scoop and if you had chocolate fudge or french vanilla it cost you an extra 5 cents. Today you better stop by the bank before entering the store!

I did not got to Baskin Robbins very often the ice creams ingredients for their colors looked to fake to me.

How much cost is per sq yd or per sq ft for nylon shag carpet in 60s/70s?

I'm not impressed with Baskin Robbins and all of them closed in Alabama about 10 years ago after massive opening in 90s.

I prefer Cold Stone because it is easier for me with lactose intolerance.

There was a Baskin Robbins at a Dunkin Donuts in my city and Baskin Robbins did not last very long . No one was buying it. I can't eat ice cream anymore , I did not have any today when I brought my granddaughter some.

I am sure back in 1962 people looked at the cost of things in the 1920s and thought everything was too expensive at the time. Who knows?

However , I do believe the value of the American dollar was higher back then compared to now. Look at the value of the American dollar to compare.

I do not know the cost; but do remember most was priced at per sq. yd. (yard) rather than sq. ft. (foot). I was working as a bookkeeper for a contractor that built houses and per yard was definitely the common way of pricing it.

Yes, same here, most carpets were priced in sq yd but now, they are converting to sq ft.

iMac is much cheaper today than it was in 1980's. You should be glad you able to afford computer today. The cheapest computer I have seen is Gateway for $199 at BestBuy.

To really compare two different eras you need to do it as cost as a percent of average income. The dollars spent years ago may look small to us now but were a higher percent of income.
