11 Features You No Longer See in Cars | Mental Floss

One of them is bench seat. I wish more vehicles had them. It would be nice to have 2 buddies and me sit in front on bench while I load up bikes in back area. I wonder why they are no longer there. I just wish they would be option those days, but they are not. That is one reason why I like older vehicles.

Yeah, ashtrays were no longer a feature in late models...and what does the smokers do? Discard it out the window... what a way to litter the earth.

Ohhh bench seats! OMG...my car in high school had that. Great place to use for making out!

Front seat vent windows that you could open for a little fresh air without rolling down the main windows.

Me too. I missed that one. I was a kid, and kept it open and got a small vent nicely.

I like to have regular spare tire instead tiny one that is strict with speed limited. That sucks.

I imagine they aren't as comfortable as bucket seats. I also miss the little front vent windows and the left foot dimmer switch. Oh! And definitely the real spare tire.

my first car had bench seats. I currently have one car with bench seats. it also still has few control knobs and my oldest son thinks its weird- but I love it.

I never used mine. And at one point an aunt borrowed by car and left one open.

I guess they were only listing so many. But . . . they left off the Autronic Eye and would dim you headlights for you. They were discontinued because reflective billboards came out and the reflection was enough to dim people's headlights.

no more cig lighters, but still have ports for phone chargers
(amazing some think they can still use cig lighters in them and set the car on fire) yes, they still sell cig lighters at the auto part stores.

I have a 2012 Rolls Royce Ghost here this morning that a customer request oil service, I check the navigation screen to see if we can reset oil service, says "Make an appointment with service dept at RR dealer". Told a customer to contact dealer for services.
This black Ghost what I see is dual ashtray with cig lighter on the console and have rear suicide doors. Sorry I didn't dig more deeper around in passenger area to see what features it have... I did open a hood, saw a pretty 6.6L V12 with twin turbochargers. Cool looks...

My old Nova station wagon still have bench seats, front butterfly windows (vent windows), ashtrays, lot of knobs, foot dimmer switch plus ring horn. Happy to see my car every day.

Many new vehicles don't have spare tires at all. Removed to save weight and money

wha? that's not true.

Depends on what is meant by "new" (how new?); seems according to Jane's link this seems to have just started in the last 2 years.

Huh.. My friend just bought a new car a couple of weekends ago. I'll have to ask her if she has a spare tire with her car...
